The algorithm helped Amazon recoup money and improve margins. The FTC’s lawsuit redacted an estimate of how much it alleges the practice “extracted from American households,” and it also says it helped the company generate a redacted amount of “excess profit.” Amazon made more than $1 billion in revenue through use of the algorithm, according to a person familiar with the matter.

“The FTC’s allegations grossly mischaracterize this tool,” an Amazon spokesman said. “Project Nessie was a project with a simple purpose—to try to stop our price matching from resulting in unusual outcomes where prices became so low that they were unsustainable. The project ran for a few years on a subset of products, but didn’t work as intended, so we scrapped it several years ago.”

Project Nessie is one of a number of instances where the FTC’s complaint contends that Amazon’s monopoly power had broad impacts on raising consumer prices across retail.

I'm not clear on the illegality other than the FTC saying "monopoly power"

I heard landlords are using software like that, which is why rent prices are skyrocketing. Ai says peeps can pay more, because they have no choice.

Yeah, that new capital gains tax for Washington is pretty high. (7%, iirc)

Because the Hyundai factor being able to sell direct is going to be a cheaper car.

Me (on Tuesday): Uh, this order (with overnight shipping) was supposed to be here Monday, and now it says "might be lost" on the status despite yall giving me any notification that it might me lost
Amazon: OK, do you want refund or replacement?
Me: Replacement.
Amazon: OK.
Me: And a credit for the inconvenience.
Amazon: Fine, here's $5.
Me: OK.

I check the order. And it will be here in ONE WEEK. Despite the fact that the product still says available for overnight shipping.

Me: Hey, this order was originally overnight delivery, why is the replacement one 1 week?
Amazon: Sorry. Would you like it for free? (It's like a $20 item)

The good news is I'm out of town anyway until Saturday, so Tuesday isn't so bad. But still, jeez.

Amazon: Your package will arrive January 21st (Monday,, same as the other place said)

Amazon support: Oh, no, it will really arrive today (Friday), just trust us.
Me: Doubt.

They did give me a $50 gift card though, so that's something. Still annoyed.

Right, i was just wondering as I typed it up: Do yall have this many issues?

Admittedly, we do a large amount of Amazon shopping. So it may only be 1% of orders that have issues but damn.

They usually only offer $5, or maybe $10. You have to escalate to get anything more.
