Michigan State is the consensus national title favorite. The Spartans are 11-2 at Caesars Sportsbook, followed by Kansas and Kentucky at 6-1, and Memphis at 8-1. Duke and Louisville are 10-1, and North Carolina is 13-1.

No. 1 Michigan State opens its season Tuesday against No. 2 Kentucky in the second game of a doubleheader in the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden (9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN). The Spartans are 2.5-point favorites. No. 3 Kansas and No. 4 Duke collide in the first game (7 p.m. ET, ESPN). The Jayhawks are 2-point favorites.

PJ Fleck cashes in before the season gets hard

Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck has agreed to a new seven-year contract through the 2026 season, the school announced Tuesday.

The school's board of regents still must approve the new agreement. Salary details were not immediately released.

Fleck is 20-13 in three-plus seasons at Minnesota, which is 8-0 for the first time since 1941 and 5-0 in Big Ten play for the first time since 1961. The 38-year-old Fleck had been mentioned as a candidate for Florida State's coaching vacancy, and a potential candidate if USC makes a coaching change.

They could honestly lose their next four games.

The ESECPN crew actually called out Bama's resume at 3 saying it's weaker than 4 and 5's resumes. They also said if Bama loses this weekend, they're out of the playoffs with no real chance to get back in.

Shockingly, Vegas has the Buckeyes at 5-2 favorites to win it all.

OSU has looked solid, they just need to find a real team to play. Wisconsin has only beat up a bunch of nobodies. Same with PSU. But OSU has looked better against its nobodies than Clemson or Bama.

Man, watching Duke + Kansas was hard. I wanted KU to lose cuz they're a bunch of cheaters, and Duke, cuz they are Duke. At least the ACC got a good win, I guess.

Of the undefeated teams, their SOS is the highest, by a lot. It confuses me because LSU played two top 10 teams. I guess the other teams LSU faced are just that bad.

OSU's opponent winning percentage is also the third highest in the nation. (Nobody else in the top 6 are the two teams above OSU...)

I'd just like to see the Power 5 schools playing each other instead of no-name state. Cincinatti's not terrible, but it's also pretty low risk.

Cincinnati is in the top 25, has at least one win over a ranked team, and is undefeated since losing to OSU. What more do you want? OSU schedules exactly ZERO FCS teams like Bama and Clemson do! OSU also front loads their schedule with their OOC foes, while Bama, and the rest of the SEC, sticks those FCS games into their schedule before real opponents. Also, the B1G plays 1 more conference game than the SEC, which is an additional P5 school.

Cincinatti had to come from behind to beat ECU on a last second field goal. ECU is absolutely abysmal.

I want OSU playing a top half Power 5 school.

OSU has already played and beaten ranked Cincy, 7-2 Indiana (who is ranked in the other polls), ranked at the time MSU and Nebraska, and ranked (top 10 at the time) Wisconsin. After formerly ranked Maryland and the horrific Rutgers the next two weeks they will finish with #4 PSU, #14 TTUN, and then whoever in the B1G title game if they get there.

Do you know why OSU played Miami (OH) this year? Because TCU backed out of a home and home series with OSU.

You cannot compare ECU and UNC. I mean, you can, but that's absurd. Also, there was plenty of time left on the clock for Clemson to score regardless of the 2 pt try.

PSU beat Pitt by 7. That's about the same as Clemson beating UNC.

Indiana is not a good team. They're like UNC but with easier games. MSU and Nebraska were clearly over-rated. Wisconsin has also beat no one.

There's just too many teams in the NCAA. Loading up on more conference games doesn't matter when you're playing MSU, Northwestern, Indiana, etc...

Nebraska, yes. MSU...I'm not sure. Great defense, weak offense, and I think the team has quit on Dantonio amid all the rumors about his recruiting and his potential ouster.

They blew #14 TTUN off the field and will be playing ranked Iowa this week. They also finished with Minnesota, who I'm guessing will be unranked by then.

Actually, as mentioned in the CFP show, the B1G is the best conference in the nation in whatever measures the committee uses to determine that. The ACC is the worst. Also, one of those pre or post shows just was breaking down how much that one extra conference game matters, and how difficult it is this last week. Bash MSU, NW, Indiana, etc. all you want, but these teams are made up of local talent that didn't want to leave the area, and all the best high school players that, for one reason or another, didn't go to the biggest programs. The NFL isn't just filled with players from OSU, Bama, Ok, and Clemson.
