I've been meaning to give my thoughts.
I think I liked the movie cut better than the director's cut. The director's cut made Riddick into a magical being.... and I didn't like that.
Still an ok movie, and I hope there's a seuel and we get away from the magic, but it was a lot easier for me to empathize with Ridick when he was just an escaped convict fighting for his life on an alien planet. Now he's infused with the "fury of his entire race" which gives him the ability to drop 20 bad guys just by screaming. Whatever.

Yeah, that was REALLY bad.

Yep. The great majority of that background stuff, as well as when he screamed and dropped a ring of bad guys, was not in the original movie. That appeared in the director's cut.

The game I mentioned sets up a lot of Riddick's past.
I strongly recommend if you like the character you get the game and play it. I believe its out for PC now (or soon?).
It will piss you off about Johns' portrayal and death in Pitch Black though.

*Redundant Spoiler Warning*
In watching it again... I noticed that when Riddick does his "Anger of an entire race" scream, the only bad guy who isn't effected by it is the Furyan Necromonger.... nice touch, I guess.

Another thing:
At the end, the head guy is about to get wacked from two places at once. I think he purposely chose to be killed by Riddick, instead of his Lieutenant... because the head guy knew whoever killed him would be in charge, and he didn't want that to be the traitor who listens too much to his bitch wife. That's kind of cool, I guess.

I'm anxious to hear what you guys take away from Escape From Butcher Bay and how it affects your outlook on the movies.

The "one rule" in Pitch Black was to "stay in the light." The "one rule" on Crematoria in CoR was to "stay out of the light." Nice nod to the original.

In Kiera's jail cell on Crematoria, there's a simple image of Riddick's face scratched into the wall.
