I would consider any Catholic that does not speak out against the actions of the church on this matter to be just as at fault as I consider Muslims who do not speak out against Islamic terrorists.

We look pretty poorly on anyone who funds terrorists, even indirectly. Is funding pedos less offensive?

Now, that having been said, I would really only be so strict in this interpretation if a Catholic goes to a church where there's a priest that has been so accused and then protected in a questionable manner, and they still attend and tithe and say nothing. And I don't have anything more against Catholics in general than I have against Christians in general. It is in theory possible to be a Christian and still be a good person. I just haven't met very many of them myself.

I harbour a deep suspicion for those who let others give them all the reasoning behind various metaphysical/philosophical questions without a sufficient proof.

The chances of more than a handful of people agreeing totally on all the bits of why we're here & where we're going is about as good as Lyndon LaRouche winning the next presidential election.

Take out the religious part, and churches still do a lot of good for communities, etc. Yes, they have their fair share of corruption, psychos, etc. To say that every religious person is evil simply because a few of them are idiots is dumb. But I'm not pissed at all Catholics because they funded an organization that had pedos. That's just ridiculous.

That being said, I do hold the church/pastors/priests to a higher standard than I do teachers, etc. So, yes, I expect more from them and feel it's worse when a priest molests a child than when a teacher does it. The crime is the same, but the breech of trust is greater with the priest, in my opinion. I would have expected more from the church than for them to protect their bottom line.
I agree with all of this.

What's your source? Not disputing, I want to use this, and I want to be able to say something other than "I know this because Vince on the message board said so!"

I'll have to see if I can find those numbers again. Saw them some years back from the past 5 or 6 years (at the time), and the numbers ran very close every year with the 5 gallon buckets winning out most of them.

I vaguely remember those numbers, I think I was in Memphis at the time. Something about how more kids drown in the home than get shot?

I found some of the info, but nothing that was comparing it to the accidental gun deaths.

About 1/4 of accidental drowings of toddlers were in buckets. Kind of makes sense. Parents really wouldn't be as concerned about that as they would their child in the tub or out by the wading pool.

The kid leans into the bucket to splash in the water at the bottom and topples head first in and can't get out.

"And then there's this asshole."

One thing the Catholic Church absolutely needs to do is put a gag order on most of their organization. Assign specific people in different regions the task of talking to the media, and instruct everyone else to shut their pie holes.

Fuck gag orders. Saying something that blatantly stupid ought to result in automatic defrocking.
