I think that says a lot more about our federal government than it does about Google.
I doubt they were "in bed" about that. More likely the government peeps were thinking "hey, I bet we can subpoena that!"

Long before Google was in talks about working with the Chinese, the Feds and Google started swapping spit. Google gets to make crap tons of money. They won't run into those pesky "anti-trust" suits that slammed Microsoft all during the 90's. All the government gets in return is every bit of private info on everyone that they ask for.

I think that last part happens regardless of who the company is. Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Apple, telecom companies. The governement sends them the subpoena, they have to deliver the data. It's less quid pro quo, than "gimmie, and don't tell or ask."

AT&T expanding gigabit Internet
The company has already announced plans to bring the gigabit broadband service to Dallas, and it's in advanced talks to deploy the service in the Triangle region of North Carolina
Being that I live there, I'd like to know how long it takes to go from advanced talks to actual service. I'm guessing it's in the 12-24 month range, at best.

It's AT&T, so add another 2 years.

Yes, Google Fiber just announced they are talking to the area as well, a few months ago. (See 2/19 post in this thread)

The interesting thing is a third company (small, regional fiber provider) also announced gigabit service to the area, and also has a small pilot live in the northern part of this area.
I just hope people get to market soon. I would love some fast fiber.

Amazing what happens when actual competition pops up. Wish our elected leaders were not so stupid and corrupt.

Hmmmm ... I wonder if there is some way to structure America II so that there are independent and competing Congresses ....
Sorry, a bit off topic I know.

The exception being cable providers. There, we're best if there's just one choice.

Sure it's best. That means the lobbyists can centralize their bribes.
