And I question the claim of the stiffy.
Are you questioning my preference for hard drives

or merely questioning my ability to get a stiffy?

In approximately 1986 there was a brand of 5.25" computer disks with a brand name of "Mr. Floppy."

Be grateful I couldn't find an image of a Mr. Floppy disk on google.

I hear that all the time. "You keep making jokes about being gay, so maybe you are gay." Blah blah blah!

My response is always, "Listen, voice inside my head! Shut the hell up or I'll tell them what you made me do with the hooker's torso!"

Back on topic here. . . for those building PCs, get 10 case fans for $10 including shipping. They have both the 3 and 4 pin connectors.

NewEgg

Just add it to your cart, tell it you want ten, and the price and shipping change to $9.90 with free shipping. Don't know why.. . . Oh, skip over the 'free sticker' offer. Don't accept it.

I bought them. Can never have too many fans, I say.

Cool. I'm buying my case and power supply next week, and I'll load up on fans, too.

Might want to hurry up and get the free ones that were posted in this thread before they are gone.

Power supply is dead.

Hey... what's the minimum power supply I was for an Athalon 64 chip, geforce 7800gt card, hard drive, dvd burner and mobo with integrated sound and network?

There wont be a lot of extraneous hardware in it.

450W?

450MW should be plenty.
Near as I can tell, Athlon 64 is around 100, up to another 100 for the 7800, drives are generally 5-15, mobo 25ish.

I've got a P4-3.2Ghz with 1GB RAM, 2 burners, 6600GT, 7 drives on a 450. My UPS reports utilization of 250W

Read the power requirements for your card. My 7800GT need 24 or 28Amps and a min of 420Watts.

Tom's Hardware

These #s are for the ENTIRE system, btw.

Here is their test system.

450 is plenty, plenty, plenty.

I went as high tech as I could while staying close to $1k. I chose a good Mobo that I could do plenty of expanding on later... another video card to SLI them together, up to an Athalon 64X2 processor, etc. It also has 6 SATA2 HD slots, so that's cool. I was surprised how cheap the SATA2 HD's were.

I spent a lot of time cross referencing everything to ensure it was all compatible. Hope I didn't screw anything up the way I did last time.[/color]

Why deluxe on the motherboard? Just curious. The plain SLI seemed plenty to me.

I didn't want to spend $1k on the top of the line dual-core athalons... this MB can handle them. So in a year or 2, when prices have dropped a lot, I still have plenty of room for upgrading.
