It's probably for the best. You'd just wind up getting sued by the RIAA for illegally making people want to buy albums they had never heard of before.

I only listen to 28kbs feeds at work, no need for 128 when I can't turn it up enough to enjoy the added clarity.

Hey, is it kilo BITS per second, or kilo BYTES per second? I was assuming it was bytes.

I thought it was bits ...
EDIT: I think it comes from back when 2400 was an impressive rate. It sounds better to say 2400k(bits)ps than it does to say 300k(bytes)ps. Blame the marketers.

A 128 BIT rate might be possible for 10 or fewer listeners.
Once I get my subsequent bandwidth problem ironed out.

128 kilobits.
But your upstream is prolly about 384kilobits.
128 bits would get you... midi.

Well that doesn't sound right.
What's the speed of a 56K dial-up modem?

I still don't know, but you're probably right. I've gotten brainlock when trying to assimilate this particular stuff in the past, too.

That'd be 56kbps (kiloBITs per second). Minus overhead, of course, so the real maximum connection is a bit less. Call it about 48kbps or so.

So upstream, the typical cable modem is only 6 times faster than dialup?

I vote one of us win the lottery and set up a DTMan T-1 line, then we can host everything, including dtman.com, ourselves.
