Canada would launch an all-out ambush.

They'd hit the American border, and automatic patrols from the air force, national guard, coast guard, and civilian police would just automatically draw and fire, on autopilot, following standard rules of engagement and self defense.

The entire Canadian invasion force would be wiped out. No one left to question.

Later that afternoon, the Canadian ambassador would be called into the office of the Secretary of State. He would ask, "Did you guys attack us? We honestly can't tell but a lot of Canadians appear to have committed suicide on our shared border and some of them had guns."

That picture makes me itch to bomb some supply lines.
