I'm really doing my best to talk myself into McCarthy. At the very least, I'm giving him a chance. I like having new voices in the building, even if one of them is white Mike. Perhaps he can be the adult that the organization had been missing for 2 decades.

As much as I think it's utter BS Belichick didn't get in the HOF on the first vote, he kinda deserved to get the shaft...

My first reaction had some "well, he did cheat" in there. I can get pretty hung up on principle, so, making him wait a while would be nice.

NFL says "more work to be done" on Rooney rule.

This is after 10 HC jobs and 0 black candidates hired, but 1 Lebanese guy. To be fair, I heard Scheelhaus (sp?) had the Browns job, but dropped out after they told him he had to retain Schwartz. (Stranger, that true?) He was also a strong contender for the Steelers job, but they went with the local boy and "more Tomlin".

I think Scheelhaus and the Miami DC were the only "fresh" minority candidates in this cycle? Point being, I never blame any team for not hiring recycled coaches. No offense to guys who have been HCs before, but there's evidence you weren't good. Flores is a whole separate issue as he's suing the league, so he's kind of toxic.

Anyway, I think the rule is fair, but you cannot force hires. Race quotas are inherently racist. You cannot make up for past sins by committing sins against people who look like the previous sinners. You're just continuing the cycle of racism.

The answer for "what is the appropriate number of [insert demographic here] coaches?" is unknown. I'm sure people will argue it should reflect the league's players, but that's a horseshit argument. Playing in the league does not mean you'll be a good coach, so that number doesn't translate. Lots of players went on to be shit coaches.

I think as long as everyone TRULY has the same opportunity, then the results are not the league's problem. At that point, the issue moves to the person themselves. And let me clarify, interviewing someone just because they're a minority and you're fulfilling the Rooney Rule is NOT a true opportunity.

I think the Rooney Rule is as far as it should go.

Over 25 seasons from 2000 through 2024, an AP count shows, 31 of 173 new NFL coaches (18%) are Black.

13.7% of Americans are black. Doesn't see off to me.

While, I understand the claim that they need more representation in the ranks of head coaches, your stat does make a compelling argument.

Across the board from sports to politics to entertainment, black people are technically overrepresented. In fact, there's only one group that's more overrepresented...

The reports I heard at the time had him as the instigator, this is not his first run in with DK, and after the missed hit he told another fan that it's exactly what he wanted.

DK was 100% wrong to swing on the man.

However, we need to send a message that the guy's behavior will not be rewarded.

To use another example from the world of sports... A few years it was legal in the NBA for offensive players to initiate contact and draw fouls. You'd have players fake a shot to get a defensive player to jump and then the offensive player would intentionally jump into the airborne defender to get free foul shots. It was everywhere and nobody liked it. The NBA had to change the rules to eliminate it.

This guy was doing the same thing. If he wins, then stadiums are going to be full of fans calling players' mothers cunts and using the "hard R".
