Oh yeah, I assumed that was being shown while it finished the install process in the background.

I hate Dell.
So, I upgraded my daughter's laptop to Windows 10 from 8.1. Turns out Dell isn't supporting that laptop on Windows 10, and doesn't make drivers for it. So every time I put the machine to sleep mode, it crashes. And takes 2 minutes to boot back up.
Fuck Dell.

Well, good news. I checked the reliability reports, and Windows was crashing every time, but IAStor was crashing as well. Got updated drivers from Intel, and the issue is resolved.
Dell still sucks, though.

So I decided to do the switch over the Windows 10 last weekend and so far so good except for one thing. When I use my headphones I get an echo of myself through it. I can log into TS and I could hear other people just fine without any echo but my end is echoing bad. Cake said he didn't hear me echoing on his end and I sounded ok to him.
I'm guessing its something to do with my settings in the playback/recording device section of the sound settings but I couldn't figure it out the little that I messed with it. Would any of you know what could be causing this? What would happen in the switch over to Win10 to change how things were working before?

Did you update all your sound drivers?

hmm.. no I didn't. I don't think I've ever updated my sound drivers, never had any problems with them before, i'll have to check that out. Is there an easy way to check/update the sound drivers?

I had to update my drivers post-Windows 10 for other issues, so make sure to check that with your vendor's support site.

Not especially. Entirely dependent upon the hardware maker and the amateur C hackers they hire to write their drivers.

Ok, thanks i'll try checking the drivers. Now that I'm doing some digging I'm finding a lot of people are having problems with the Realtek audio after Win10 updates.

I had no issues with sound, but I did have to update my display drivers immediately.

Well, my wife just came downstairs and told me her machine upgraded itself to Windows 10 without asking.

I got the same call from my Mom about the POS systems in her restaurant running on Win7.
Errr, well, that used to be running on Win7.
Fortunately she knows to call her POS company tech support before she calls me, and they actually seem to know what they are doing, and they made sure she could open for the day. I told her to call Microsoft and thank them, I had her shit set to not be updating, and it did anyway. Noice.

It would not connect to the Internet... so I was fearing having to update drivers (without internet).
Win10 tried to fix itself twice, but did nothing. Told me it was missing protocols. I checked the network adapter, and every protocol I thought was relevant was there.
I tried to ping the router: success. I tried to ping another machine on my network: success.
wtf?
I disabled, re-enabled the adapter, and everything worked.

That "accidental" installation bullshit should result in a class action lawsuit.

Yep, and I am looking forward to being part of it and getting my check for $4 and a coupon for 10% off the 2018 version of Office for my trouble

That's hilarious. Secondly, what are all the PC users going to do? Apple? Linux? HAHAHAHA.

MS posts how they've been fucking you up the ass for two months without you knowing.
An oft-revised support document that Computerworld cited in a May 16 story about Microsoft's aggressive upgrade practices spelled out the workings of a pop-up notification that Windows 7 and 8.1 users had been seeing. The notification told those customers -- primarily consumers, but also many small-to-mid-sized businesses -- that the free Windows 10 upgrade had been pre-scheduled by Microsoft.
The same document also acknowledged that those who clicked the red "X" in the upper-right corner of the pop-up were approving the scheduled upgrade.
"If you click on OK or on the red 'X', you're all set for the upgrade and there is nothing further to do," the document stated.
The problem was that that operation -- clicking the X -- has been a decades-old convention in graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for simply closing a window. To users, shutting a window by clicking the X tells the operating system or application to remove the notification or close the window frame without expressing an opinion, without selecting an option or without calling for an action.
This might be the thing that pushes me over to linux. This is horseshit of the highest level.

It would definitely be hilarious if it were done by an upstart trying to steal market share from the big guy.
