I've heard the max possible level is 40, and that Pokemon don't get stronger after level 30. I have no idea if those statements are true.

Looking at that curve, looks like I'm gonna get stuck somewhere around 20.

Someone already caught all the North American Pokemon.

How?

He works 50 hours a week and it just happens to be in New York, and his office just happens to sit within a very popular place where four Pokestops meet. So he sits there all day and every 5 minutes gets free items from each of the four Pokestops. Plus, he gets all the benefits from lures people use at these stops, and the more popular areas get rare Pokemon more often.

So yeah, let's soft ban folks because they don't live in New York...

That guy in NYC sounds like he lives a very satisfying life. I can see how one would want to spoof the gps to achieve that level of satisfaction.

Eh, it is what it is. Maybe they'll tweak the monster spawning.

This game was released today in Japan. Expect that country to be incommunicado for a bit. It will be double plus insane over there this weekend.

Apparently a guy in his office in Tokyo will finish the game in about 4 days without ever leaving his desk.

The hotel I stayed at this weekend had a gym and pokestop. The pokestop was a bar downstairs and someone fed it lures all day. The game was amazingly easier.

I'm in Chicago. Last night we had dinner at a place that had 3 pokestops in range of our table. Meanwhile, 6 Pokemon spawned at the start of dinner, and people dropped lures on 2 of the stops during our dinner

Definitely some kinks to be worked out in this type of game.
Apparently a guy in his office in Tokyo will finish the game in about 4 days without ever leaving his desk.
The problem is there isn't an "end". It's a game based on team combat, although if you really want to break it down, the combat portion and keeping track of who's winning and all that measures from not very good to non-existent.

Anyway, the point is players in a large city could easily grab the most powerful Pokemons, train them up, and then visit a town with a single gym or something and put their super high level Pokemon there where the players who live in that community will be at a huge disadvantage.

To compare it elsewhere, if you remember the original Rust large clans who built bases right next to monuments (treasure sites) could keep out smaller clans and solo players, which gave the large clan a massive advantage. This usually led to the death of servers because the large clan would have everything really quickly and use it to dominate and bully the small groups or individual players.

We all know this type of mobile and interactive game play is going to be used elsewhere, and possibly in a game we actually want to play. So the question becomes, how do you avoid this issue and make the game equal for everyone and not slanted towards folks in high population centers?

What goes up...
Since July 6, when the game was released in New Zealand and Australia, Nintendo’s stock jumped an astounding 63.7 percent, adding about $11 billion to the company’s value, Quartz reported.
...
As it turns out, that might not be the case. What most didn’t see to know was that Nintendo only has about a 32 percent stake in Pokémon Company, Reuters reported.
...
In response, Nintendo’s stock immediately plummeted. When the market in Japan closed on Monday, the company’s stock was down 17 percent, or about $6.7 billion.

I accidentally used a lucky egg today, so I leveled the heck outta my Pokedudes. Got 2 more levels, up to mid-Level 16. Tons of Pokestops here still. Need to battle some people to use all my excess items.

Yeah, that leveling thing is what I did. I got about 30k XP from it.

I do not believe that 4chan post.

I do not believe that 4chan post.
I'm 50/50 on it.

Clearly it's ridiculous, but at the same time, realistic. I mean we have people fighting all the time over territory and colors, why not virtual territory and colors?

I've clocked a full kilometer on an egg this morning just sitting at my desk letting the GPS coordinates wander around on their own as they are want to do.
