Do the cabs get preferred treatment there or no?
Like in Vegas, the cabs have the best spots at the airport and casinos. Uber/Lyft are usually hidden away.
I dunno, I always take Uber/Lyft at the airport. I really hate the whole cab/credit card thing as they either have surcharges (seriously, in 2024?) or "the machine doesn't work" or it just takes for fucking ever.

"Machine doesn't work" often means "We don't want to pay the fee for using the card."
Was talking to my kid about Chicgo travel options for him, as he flies in and out of there. He said there weren't taxis there any more because of the ride services. Did not verify.

I'll let you know how it goes when I'm in MA in 3 weeks.
in Boston this week, otw home now.
Prices seemed about the same for airport rides. Rides in Cambridge were distorted by the subway being out all week, but we're not bad for the two I took.
Less impact than I would have guessed, but only 4 data points

Are they still doing the "live pricing" (forgetting the actual name right now) where prices can flex based on other factors?

they always are. They have surge pricing for "extreme" events, but the prices are dynamic already.

Are those prices subject to the same sort of laws as retailers? For example: In actual emergencies, like a massive natural disaster, they can't price gouge can they?

I'm not aware that fat people are protected? But, ugh, if it's caused by an underlying medical condition it could be? I dunno, #hailTrump telling her to stop being fat.

There are real medical conditions that can cause one to be morbidly obese. I don't think her size, but I'm willing to accept it. However, those people are the rare exception, not the rule.
The reality is that the majority of obese people are due to our poison food, bad eating habits, and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. Not to mention a movement within society telling people that "big is beautiful", as if the real message isn't "Please eat yourself out of being my competition for dates, jobs, etc. Oh, and you're killing yourself you dumb fuck."
Anyway, the point is that it's absolutely ridiculous for society to adjust to people this large. You're not supposed to be that fat. You cannot expect the average Lyft/Uber driver (cabs too) to purchase a cargo van just for the purpose of driving people around. The idea is they use their own cars and not everyone is the size and weight of a small car themselves.
She should have recognized her own limitations and requested a van.

If health care wasn't subsidized by tax money, no one would have any right to tell people they shouldn't be so fat.
The problem is....
(not even considering the cost of health care is so high because it's government subsidized)
She wouldn't physically fit in my Leaf. Guess I'd get sued.

I was curious so I looked it up. It was a Mercedes-Benz sedan.
Can she fit comfortably in that? I genuinely don't know.
Also, should these drivers, because it's their car, be able to refuse a ride that will cost them more than they make due to potential damage to their car? She's going to put some strain on the shocks, and it's winter here. Potholes are everywhere. Adding an additional 300 pounds to that portion of the car could result in serious damage.
