OK, so "don't be a Republican," got it. But seriously, what would you change policy-wise in America?
Upper Middle Class is doing great.
So again, the top 20-30% are doing well or fantastically in America. So why is the system so terrible to the bottom 50-70%?Rather than being left behind as all the gains in the economy accrue to billionaires, they have in fact seen bigger wealth gains over the past three years than the top 10% of families. Indeed, the biggest wealth gains between 2019 and 2022 were among the approximately 13 million families in the 80th to 90th percentile of the income distribution. Their median wealth jumped 69% from 2019, adjusted for inflation, to $747,000 in 2022.

It's probably going to take violent protests, and then it's going to take the MSM to not report them as treasonous, as they will probably be at the white house and we have a D president to reelect. They need to make people think everything's fine and it's just lazy people hurting. Both things will be long odds.... people can't afford to not work their job and side job to go protest, and the MSM has already been paid for to make sure trump isn't reelected.
Costs for the little people are up way higher than 3.2%, this year. I don't care what the official numbers say.
Conspiracy theory: I bet a dollar the official numbers are being finessed.
I think for a long time a whole lot of people have been living month to month with no savings, and for the first time in a long time inflation is way up, and suddenly that becomes noticeably unsustainable on a large scale.
Policy change to fix it? Dunno. Possibly more printing of money and then blanket "relief" checks to everyone, including the people who don't need them. Possibly figuring out how to cap housing costs.... maybe large scale building of affordable housing that would actually be policed so it doesn't devolve into The Carter? Just add another trillion to the deficit and built MegaBlocks all over. No one cares about the deficit. Maybe ban corporations/LLCs from purchasing single-family housing. Get investment property cost ballooning under control. My house insurance, which I've never used, just went way up for no reason and made my escrow/mortgage payment increase by 10%. That kinda sucks and outpaces official inflation numbers, and that doesn't even count the increased prices of everything else.
Everyone is winking and nodding about inflationary pricing, admitting they are raising prices for no reason and blaming the economy. Maybe something needs to be done about that, and just tax the fuck out of every company posting increased profits that last 3 years.
I realize your answer is going to be "Well make the Rs do it then," and then Leisher is going to link some things showing that Ds block progress just as fast, and Cakedaddy will continue to have me blocked, and we'll all ignore each other, so I'm not sure why I even bothered typing all this.

Our home insurance went up 50% this year and I still don't know why.
If you don't mind my saying, your policy proposals seems very socialist. Also, very inflationary, but that's secondary.
When you inject a bunch of money into an economy, but the # of goods are roughly the same, prices go up. Stimulus during covid was massive.GORDON wrote: ↑Fri Oct 27, 2023 8:56 am Everyone is winking and nodding about inflationary pricing, admitting they are raising prices for no reason and blaming the economy. I don't care about socialism any more. Our capitalism stopped working when our lawmakers became pliable to the highest bidder.

They said the capital-D word. The banks are kinda fucked by this whole treasuries being devalued by higher interest rates combined with this whole CRE meltdown. The dirty little secret is that the entire banking sector is a black hole on a balance sheet level. This money keeps the economy going during what is essentially a Great Depression event.

To be fair, I have noticed Target's food prices are higher than the local Kroger. Plus, they don't have all the necessities, so why would anyone shop for food there?

This is sports ball related, and CA related, but I think interesting overall for finance.
I would be very curious to see various players from other states post their game checks, and additionally, the same players posting game checks when they're home versus on the road.

He's in the 37% federal, 2.4% Medicare, he no longer pays Social Security, and 13.3% CA tax. But that check "only" has 11.3% for CA.
The NFL minimum is $706k/year. Which puts almost every player in the 37% federal bracket. They are all above the SocSec phaseout. 2.4% medicare is everyone, so it's just the state that varies (from 0% to 13.3%, iirc).
