The kid is getting a laptop for Christmas............................ and I'm guessing it will come preloaded with Win10. So I'll probably be messing with it at that point.

Oh that'll be nice.

Unless I hear about a good sale before then, I'll be purchasing around the Black Friday timeframe.

MS snoops your system to see if/how long you've been using W10.

Microsoft is now checking registry edits people do manually to avoid the Windows 10 nagware... and undoing the edits.

I found this info:

I use this script to clean people's Windows 7 computers up:

wusa /uninstall /kb:3035583 /quiet /norestart

and the same for

kb:2952664
kb:3022345
kb:3068708
kb:3075249
kb:3080149
kb:3021917
kb:3083324
kb:2977759
kb:3112343

Then I hide those updates in windows update, and uncheck automatic updates because MS keeps switching them on and I'm not sure they will eventually push windows 10 as a security update.

Also I found these things to help keep Win10 off but I heard Microsoft is already battling them:

Exactly.

I completely understand Microsoft's position and actually support it to a point. Getting the world onto one OS has to really reduce costs for them. 1 OS to develop for, one OS to support, etc. (Reminds me of a fruit based company...) Having the world on a "standard" has to make everything so much easier.

That being said the way they're doing this is completely wrong. Fine, make this change, but make 2016 or even Q1 the last time you can get newer PCs with 7. Doing it this way is just going to piss people off.

I understand it. If their latest OS didn't suck compared to the one I'm currently using, this wouldn't be a problem.

They're now serving ads on the lock screen, but they can be disabled.

I get enough ads from websites, aps, and games I play. I don't want anything to do with an OS that does it as well. Ugh.

Upgraded a machine to Windows 10.

It's literally walking me through some GOD DAMNED slideshow instead of letting me use my computer. Some unskippable, slower than hell slideshow that I cannot seem to advance via RDP. And it's a machine I ONLY USE VIA RDP
It's not me, it's someone else.

I am running 3-4 machines on 10 and I have no recollection of a slideshow?

Slideshow may have been excessive.

It was a 2 minute thing where it showed 3 messages.
"All your files are where they were left"
"something something something"
"we have new features to show you"

And I assumed the last one meant it would continue into a slideshow showing me those features. And I couldn't get past the screens at all.

I upgrade my daughter's laptop to it last night as well. Of course, it completely failed to import her bookmarks into the new browser.
