I too started the New Year correctly, a few times. It's good to set a tone.

No terrorist acts here.

What is known about the Cybertruck bomber.

The driver's name was released this morning. Not sure why they haven't updated that article.

Hilariously, the Cybertruck itself helped contain the blast. Pretty clear the guy did not know what he was doing with explosives.

Still, nice to see random bombings are now a thing here. We get mass shootings, bombings, and vehicles used for mass casualty incidents.

Our government is doing an awesome job.

I had a thought this morning, about how shit may lock down more.

I've always had a problem with being touched by TSA at airports, since I unfortunately remember what life was like before 9-11. I'll never not have a problem with being treated like a terrorist so peeps can have a jobs program.

But when I bring it up, that I'm a veteran and I have a visceral response to being touched and searched because they think I might be a terrorist, peeps counter with "Well that's the price we pay to all be safe."

And so basically, they're saying we have to give up freedoms for security.

And then there's that famous saying about that.

Both incidents were pulled off by veterans.

Makes us all look bad.

Although, if one is being honest, veterans have the most vested in this country, and rightfully, should be more pissed than anyone.

I don't care.

I didn't say I deserved special rights because I'm a veteran, I was saying I am extra pissed because I'm a veteran.

We've given up freedom for security, and lots of smart people will argue in favor of it.

But TBH peeps who do federal service should have more rights and privileges than lesser people.

Why the smiley face? It's true.

But...as I said here years ago, we need another branch of the armed forces for those who don't desire going into battle.

They still do basic training, but instead of the military they go into a domestic branch. They can serve at national parks, fight wildfires, perform security at protests, and so on. A million different things they could be used for and they still get discipline and serve their country so they have the right to vote. Still armed and still could face dangerous situations, but not over foreign policy.

And yes, we'd need some very specific rules to ensure this force is never used for political purposes. One rule I'd make is that they are limited to handguns and standard ammo. Not just the people, but the branch itself cannot buy more than that.

Because I just referred to a couple people still left here as "lesser," so I was smiling as I said it.

Basically, you're talking about reviving the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corps. With which I agree. They were an army of unemployed men who were put to work doing crap all over the country. Even some of the buildings at the Toledo Zoo have the CCC stamp on them.

Not only would random, constructive things get done, but it would help get a generation of kids off the screens for a minute and engaging in the real world. There's no down side, apart from possibly a need for less illegal labor.

The Tesla truck bomber doesn't add up.

Green Beret
Explosives expert (which makes the ineffectiveness of the bomb all the more curious)
New Dad
Trump fan
Was home on leave from his post in Germany
Died of a self-inflicted gunshot before the explosion
Nothing on social media indicating any sort of anger

Are we sure he wasn't dead when the Tesla pulled up?

Anyone else ever see the excellent Arlington Road (1999)?

Even weirder, he went to Las Vegas, NM first, then was like "Oh shit, wrong Vegas"

Honestly, that alone with having to charge that piece of shit 8 times to get the to real Vegas was enough to just set him off.

Terror plot foiled by FBI.

We didn't talk about this yet. In fact, it seems to be getting swept under the rug. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that it's Muslims and they were targeting LGBQT+ people on Halloween.

Sidenote: I watched in real time as my far left wife was super interested in hearing about this news until it was revealed they were Muslims. She immediately lost interest. I guess if it doesn't fit the narrative, it's not worth discussing?
Although Ali, Mahmoud and Person 1 are all under 21, the complaint noted in September they began traveling to a popular area in Ferndale, Michigan, known for its bars and clubs.

“Many of the clubs and bars in this area intentionally attract members of the LGBTQ+ community,” the complaint states.
Fun Fact: I was in Ferndale, MI on Oct 31 seeing my daughter in a cabaret that was benefiting some LGBQT+ charity. We were right on the strip they were targeting. Pretty sure my wife and daughter don't know this fact because TikTok probably hasn't covered it. Not being snarky, sadly that's accurate. I do not think I'm going to tell them.
If convicted, Ali and Mahmoud could face up to 15 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine, a spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan said.
Absolutely unacceptable. You're talking about men who planned to take as many innocent lives as possible even if it meant their own deaths, and all in the name of an ideology. Death, life in prison, or a prison sentence and then the revoking of their citizenship are the only possible solutions. These men are only going to become more radicalized in prison.

I've only heard very conflicting things about this: 1) that it's ISIS reborn and 2) that it's just teen-agers talking shit.

I'll wait for the dust to settle.
