Serenity: SPOILER THREAD!! - I mean it!  Spoilers!

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Seems Joss has a way of doing such things. I didn't think he should have done that but it does open up a place for River as the new pilot.

AND GOD DAMNIT! WTF is up with the changing of the backstory?!?!?! Simon was no where NEAR that cool and calm during combat as what they depicted during the move to save his sister. They should have left that shit alone...maybe shown someone else doing that and getting her out in cryo like the f-in series shows....that particular part was a strikeout for Joss IMO.

Yeah, he did seem awful calm there. But then it wasn't very much like combat so I can forgive that. He played a role for a bit, then did some stun thing, and got outside that window before any real combat started didn't he? I can't remember the first part of the movie too well now, all I can remember is Wash. :)

I hate that Wash is dead, but I gotta say I've never cared so much when a character has died, ever. I spent most of the rest of the movie in denial, and I think I moved through all the classic "five stages" last night. If his goal was to make an impact on the audience, for me it worked.

Definately. Apparently Joss likes to tug on heart strings by killing off popular characters. I was told he did this in Buffy on a regular basis.

True. Fortunately they could usually come back later, thanks to the supernatural nature of the show.

I'll be really annoyed if they find some cheesy way to bring Wash back, though. That's just not what Firefly is supposed to be like, you know?

I wish Shepard hadn't been killed off, but I guess they had to do something to explain the limited screen time. Seemed like he had a whole backstory that they just never got to talk about, I know if the series was going on they would have got to that eventually. But then again someone had to die that mattered at that stage in the flick.

I was so damn shocked when Wash was killed... I sat there for a bit wondering how he was gonna survive that. Pretty sad once it really sunk it :(

At least a few girls in the theatre were ballin when he died, at least I think they were all girls, you weren't down here yesterday TPR were ya.

I was too shocked last time to notice the audience reaction. This time I was paying attention, and when he delivered the first half of that line the audience all laughed in relief, of course. When the spike hit, there were gasps but some lady in the audience literally screamed. Like a movie-type scream. I wonder if that happened the first time, too, and I missed it.

I cried again, too, dammit. Joss Whedon stole my manhood, the bastard.

To be fair my friend is the one who noticed the crying girls at first... like you I was still in disbelief. I'm gonna have to see this again and soon, and for me that is pretty rare.

I did hate that we haven't gotten the backstory on Book. That's one of my peeves with the movie. I think it was about time for Book to die, but he needed to give up his secrets first.

I agree, even Early knew he wasn't no Shepherd. Still liked the exchange between him and Mal though.

I bet he wasn't an ex-operative but a high-up in the Alliance gumment.

Wow... liked it... not sure if there can be any more though....

The only way would be to turn it into the story of the new rebellion or something, pretty crazy, either way.

Yep, I got a little misty.

It was my impression even before I saw the movie that Book was, in some way, shadowing River. They did board Serenity at the same time, after all. So really now I can't explain why he would leave the ship, unless he just 'quit.'

Book left the ship mostly due to the actor having prior obligations I think.

I always had the impression that Book was a closet badass. When they raided the crazy German guy's space station, Book was shooting a rifle from the hip and taking out kneecaps.

Seems that's the popular opinion, shame we'll never know.

Plus don't forget when he was shot (?) and they went to the Alliance for help they were getting the blow-off until Book showed them his super-secret ID and then they were totally kissing his ass.

Nah, I d'int forget that.

That was the first obvious sign that not all was as it seemed with him.
