Land

I've always wondered where we should establish America II.
I'm thinking "Afghanistan" is going to be vacant, soon. No seaport, but we can cover 75% of the desert landmass with solar panels, and sell energy on the cheap to our neighbors in exchange for military protection.
We could put up signs, "Under New Management."

The upside is that it's a very difficult country to invade, being all mountainous and desolate. The downside is....well, it's all mountainous and desolate.
I was actually thinking more along the lines of some banana republic, maybe Central or South America. If we pick a small one that has a communist dictator, we can get the U.S. government to help us overthrow it.

The thought of turning Afghanistan into the new Jewel of Central Asia appeals to the SimCity playah in me.

Just make sure you leave room for roads. . . .
My only concern would be, who would provide the Internet services?

Nah, put Salma Hayak in charge, with us as her puppet masters.TheCatt wrote:mbilderback wrote:unkbill wrote:I say we run Gordo for office here and take over from within.
Gordo won't work, we need someone good-looking. :p
Well, OK.
I reluctantly accept
What world leader will say no to Salma... besides Chirac, who is obviously in the closet.
So how about we start trying to make some <s>Faustian</s> deals with various countries for a chunk of land, for a small Singaporian/Hong Kongian-type country? For the land, we give then X% of our revenue, GDP, or something like that.
What are our requirments? Deep Water port? Do we want to be landlocked? Natural resources? What?

I think we need to found America II at the intersection of the borders of as many countries as possible, each of which we've made a land deal with. That way if one country goes back on the deal and screws us over before we consolidate our power base we can pull back into the rest of America II and still make it.
