No you won't, I just reupped for another month.

I was only considering cancelling because almost no one was playing on it for awhile there. It's not the busiest server around, but clearly some folks are enjoying it.

Besides, I'm about ready to come back myself. If Elder Scrolls doesn't keep me busy all weekend I'll see you in Rust.

I had a pretty good weekend in the games I played. I did skip the Medium challenge thing that was going on.

So the game is good enough, and I've played it enough that I now feel I can give the developers some of my cash to reward their work. (Same thing I did with LoL.)

Anyway, their MC pricing is beyond fucked. They need to get smart like Riot did, and hire someone to deal with that stuff because programmers who don't know shit about it, can't price things to move.

I got on this morning because it's the last hours of a sale on camo. Not just camo, but color schemes for your mechs. For fun, I made my CTF-4X all white. That's three levels of colors. Then I looked at the total cost: 1500 MC. I knew that was high, and checked the MC purchase page. You can get around 1600 MC for $6.95.

Go. Fuck. Yourself.

$7+ to simply color my mech? That's business stupidity right there. Now every time I see a colored mech in game (that isn't a hero class), I'm going to think that person's rich or a fucking moron.

I can see those prices driving folks away. If they want to grow their community, they need to get these prices figured out fast.

Piranha and IGP need to realize that players will actually spend MORE when the prices are lower.

In related news, it looks like they're now doing the shadow sales on Champion mechs, and the dude that runs that site has a really bad opinion of the champion mechs. So, I'm in a holding pattern until they start doing the Hero class mechs again. I'm sure I'm going to buy the CTF-IM, and that Highlander Heavy Metal.

In the meantime, I've got $8 million to spend. I could buy the CTF-2X and earn my master/elite status (I have the 1X and 4X and have basic tier skills in both). However, since I'll be getting the IM, I think that might be a waste.

So I'm wondering about a light mech. Which models are the best? Can any of them have a loadout that does legit damage? Cake, do you enjoy playing the Cicada? (Have you ever upgraded your skills?) It seems to me the light mechs are fun because they're uber fast, and I imagine getting KAs is easy, and Capture/Assault maps are your bread and butter, particularly with a capture mod. Are they fun in skirmishs too?

This past weekend there was a sale on some of the camo's and colors. The camo's can be bought for a one time use or pay more to own it outright and you can use it on any mech you own. The colors work a little different, once you pay the price for the color you can now use that color on any mech you own. There are also 6 basic colors you can buy for c-bills, they are kinda bland but they are free as far as real money goes.

As far as light mechs.. The Jenner and Firestarter are handsdown the best lights right now. Both have jump jets and lots of energy hardpoints.

I played all 4 free mechs and went with the cicada because:

I don't like walking up to another mech and trading fire until one of us dies. That's what heavys and assaults are to me. They are too slow and bulky for hit and run type stuff. I have VERY little time in these mechs. This was just my first impression of them. So, the heavy and Assault were out for me. The light matched my play style well. Hit and run. Squirrely, etc. But, they do so little damage. They seem to be more of a distraction than anything else. The best use of light mechs I've seen is where they run into a large group of enemies and hug a target. Then, the entire enemy team opens up on the light mech doing a TON of friendly fire damage to the mech being hugged. Yes, there are the few guys who rock in them and rack up a ton of damage circle strafing and tearing things up. I'm not that good, so the light mech was out for me. The cicada gave me my mobility, but allowed me to pack a punch. I really wish I had jump jets though. Really hurts me as a sniper.

So, yes, I do like the Cicada due to how I play. Mobility, sniping, damage.

I explained all that so you knew WHY I liked the Cicada. You might like going toe to toe and play differently than me. So, now you know where I'm coming from. I do not score many kills with him though. He packs a punch, but I over heat and can't shoot much.

So, Pros: Fast, hits hard, super long range.
Cons: Low armor, overheats.

I have all basic tier skills bought.

As far as capturing. It's boring. You don't get many c-bills for capturing. And when the enemy team responds, you are toast, or at least taken out of the game for a while. You can stand and fight, but will lose if the enemy responds with force. Or you run and try to get back to your group. Either way, you get low c-bills for capture, or low c-bills because you never shot anything and didn't get any assists. I don't like capturing, but will sometimes. I do like him in skirmishes because the teams generally group up and duke it out. This allows me to run around the edges of the fight and snipe damage on anything I see. Skirmishes are my favorite game mode. But part of that is also because it maximizes c-bill generation which is more important to me than scoring a drawn out capture map with a stealthy capture plan. Again, play style choice.

So, hope that helps. I didn't want to say "YA! He's fun! Buy one!". I wanted you to know why it's fun for me so you could better determine if it would be fun for you.

Yeah, I know. That's why I was looking at them. However, I didn't know about the one time ones, and fuck that. Shit, Riot learned that lesson really fast.

And even if I can share the color among all my mechs, at $7+ it's still a fucking rip off. (I'm cursing a lot because I'm disgusting by their pricing ignorance, and because I just had a UPS fall onto my foot.)

Sorry, but when your mechs are $30, that's bullshit, and your company is dumb. I've heard rumors that they've had trouble with funding, and depend a lot on player purchases. Considering their forums are filled with folks bitching about the cost of MC, they should get a clue.

You make more money selling a LOT of folks new mechs at $5 a pop than selling one guy a mech at $30.

For $50, you should be able to get something equal to what you get in LoL, which is 7200 RP. New champs cost 975 RP in LoL. That's 7 new champs and some money left over for skins.

Let's equate skins with mech parts and color schemes.

If I buy quality skins, I will lose the purchasing power to buy 7 champs, so my total might drop to 5.

Point being, MWO's items are WAY overpriced in terms of MC. I haven't done the math on cBills, but I think they're closer to reality. Especially if you factor in premium time, which LoL doesn't have.

And so we're clear: I LOVE this game, I just hate the MC pricing, and could see where folks take one look at it, and another look at how quickly one earns cBills without premium time, and walk away from the game.

I don't like walking up to another mech and trading fire until one of us dies. That's what heavys and assaults are to me. They are too slow and bulky for hit and run type stuff.

Typically, my battles go from long range sniping contest using cover; to close up and damn near melee; to medium range dances (where the CTF-4X excels). I like knowing someone is going to drop fast when I hit them.

However, I played the trial Spider recently to try it out, and loved it. Being lightning fast has its perks. However, it did next to nothing in terms of damage. I have noticed that the smaller mechs are far more likely to focus fire on specific parts of a mech to cripple them.

I equate the various mechs, and even their own variations to be different styles of gameplay, just like the classes in TF2 or the roles in LoL.

One more thing: I've seen capture points given out when a game is won that way. I think they're on top of victory points...

I totally agree with the price of MC, its rediculous. Considering they are selling "gold" clan mechs for $500 a pop and they aren't even out yet is just an outright rape! I've only bought the $15 dollar package of MC once and bought a hero just for the permenent c-bill bonus. Other than that, i'm not sure if i'll buy anymore MC, maybe for premium time but i don't know.

LOL did premium time. You could buy x number of games, or x number of hours/days where you could get bonus XP or IP (or was it LP? I don't even remember now. The in game free currency). They would give out free premium games when they would screw something up. But you could buy them too.

I know you get C-bills for capture. That's why I said you don't get very many of them. Because you don't. :-) You'd get way more if you just fought and got assists.

I should be around tonight.

Want to see how much Mechwarrior has changed in one year? Watch this video I found while research Cataphract builds:
<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="//www.youtube.com/v/uJ63fOuM6Rg?hl=en_US& ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="//www.youtube.com/v/uJ63fOuM6Rg?hl=en_US&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

By the way, based on this video, I see why they might have backed down some of the cBills for matches. Who the fuck is the guy who thought, "You know what's fun? Expensive repairs and buying more ammo after every mech battle!"

I don't quite understand the new Cataphract. I know that there is a 3D that already exists, i looked at Smurfy's webpage and it has the same loadout but the only difference is this new one has a standard 280 engine and the other has an XL. The only other thing i can tell is that its an Champion mech so it gets bonus XP per match. hmm..

I'll be on tonight also, i've been really enjoying the Shadowhawk alot more lately.

ok, now i see a slight difference.. they have the same hardpoints in the same spots but come with different weapons and engines. The Champion mech also comes with endosteel and double heatsincs already onboard. So slight difference but not much. I'd rather they just came out with something totally new than use something that basically already exists.

The Cataphract-3D© hits hard, and seems to have more weapons than my mouse has buttons.

I'm not on that one. There's only 4, but I did have a mech with 5 weapons groups, and obviously, there are 6 possible.

Any word on when that big update is hitting?

i don't think i could handle a mech that i had to use 6 weapon groups. I typically set them up to use 2 or 3 at the most.

As far as the mouse, the Anker that i use has 3 thumb buttons that i use for weapon groups 3,4 and 5 and there is another button at the top that could be used as 6 but i've never needed it.

I've read that the "drop module" update that will match drop weights of both teams isn't supposed to be out until the end of April. But there are patches every 2 weeks on tuesdays. The next one is coming up on March 18th.

I should be around this weekend.

I'm up for MWO or SC2 or PA or if the server actually gets activity, Rust.
