Amazon's selling a "TiVo TCD540040 Series2 40-Hour Digital Video Recorder" for $199.99, with $150 in rebates. Just go to Amazon and search for TCD540040 to see the deal. No... better yet, go HERE and put that in the search box. In fact, if youy get *anything* from Amazon, do that.
# 2 USB ports offer broadband connectivity and the ability to stream digital music and photos from a computer to TiVo

I'd probably get it if I had cable TV instead of Dish Network.

From what I hear, I *should* be able to get a free digital recorder from Dish Network if I call and attempt to cancel my service. I know I can get a free digital recorder if I just quit Dish Network and go to DirecTV.

My friend has DirecTV, and when it came to renewal time he said he wanted the free digital recorder they where offering new customers. They said no, he said "It's not fair that you treat your long-time customers worse than new customers. Cancel my account," and poof, he got his digital recorder.

Anybody know what Tivo charges per month? I think both satellite systems charge $5.

I think it's 9.99 a month. That's why I'm not buying Tivo, I have basic cable, and it's just not worth another $10 a month for me.

$12 a month, but it's well worth it. It's nat that you are getting a DVR, you are getting an entertainment management service. That little thing takes care of what's on when so well I just told it some shows I like and it's done the rest on it's own. It's even gotten good at recommending shows I'll probably like but haven't asked for yet.

No more setting dates and times to record and that crap, and no more missing a show because some moronic politician went on national TV and pushed it back a half-hour. TiVo picks it all up automatically.

TiVo will automatically record stuff based on what you've recorded before. I've seen some funny "My TiVo thinks I'm gay" and "My TiVo know I'm a pervert" stuff in the past.

That'd come in really handy if a series you where watching suddenly moves. One year, we didn't catch that The Mole's final episode was going to be on a special Sunday airing, so we missed it. That sucked. We watched every episode and missed the freakign finale where they reveal who the mole was, and showed you all the clues and stuff.

The satellite companies only charge $5 per month, and their's is built-in, so I'd probably got with one of those... though I don't think they're as smart as TiVo.
