A California man who was behind an anti-Muslim film that spurred violent protests in the Middle East was sentenced on Wednesday to one year in prison for violating the terms of his probation stemming from a 2010 bank fraud conviction.
No one told NBC they could stop running interference for him. They are still going with the "the movie caused it" story.
I guess the guy is lucky he didn't get thrown in Gitmo.
Hail Obama.

Well, he did pretty much piss all over his probation agreement. He was originally convicted of fraudulently swindling film investors while using an alias, so when he gets caught violating his probation by using an alias and taking film investments again, what do you think should happen?
Even if there were no political reasons to prosecute the guy, they still would have prosecuted the guy. Should they have let him go just because it would look bad if they prosecuted him? Sure the nature of the film and the fuss about it is very likely what brought it to the attention of his parole officer, but that's not the same thing as going after him for political reasons.

He broke his parole. He has a fake driver's license and a history of being a douchebag. Fuck him.

He didn't get jailed for that. He got publicly and socially ostracized. Freedom of speech != freedom from criticism for being a dumbass. Philosophical ideals of the Enlightenment pale in comparison to the tried and true axiom of, "If you're going to talk shit, expect pain."

I was planning on unblocking peeps on Facebook, but I had a change of heart and axed them instead. My world view has shifted, I no longer think people are generally good, and I no longer want that bullshit in my sphere of consciousness.
Unfortunately, this means I am divorcing most of my extended family... but I honestly don't want my 7 year old hanging around his 12 year old cousins who have extremely strong opinions about birth control and the republican "War on Women."

Is there anyone in the world who thinks they'll reinvent themselves correctly?

They do.

Which is one of the major things burying them in my mind.

You know, I think it was the disinformation that killed Romney. I have never seen anything that suggested he was not truly a good man, business decisions notwithstanding. In fact, there is a lot of evidence that suggests he was actually a VERY good man, and had a good head for business, as well.
What did people vote with? A republican "war on women" that had people hoarding tampons and birth control pills.
People didn't vote the facts, they voted in response to an organized propaganda campaign. It was brilliance in its simplicity: Lie while simultaneously accuse the other side of lying. What can one do except go on the defensive? I tried countering some of the "romney lies" with actual facts, and not only was I ignored and told to be silent, but I was flippantly told, "People believe what they want to believe.." meaning they just discounted my actual citations as lies.
Nothing can beat that, short of a bullet. Free candy and organized propaganda are always going to win, from now on.
Hey, remember when romney killed that guy's wife?

And overall Obama still lost white women. The president captured only 42 percent of the white women's vote, Romney captured 56 percent of it. So, white women actually were an area of strength for Romney.
...
If you were to list gender and racial/ethnic groups by their Democratic vote on Tuesday, the list would go like this: black women (96 percent), black men (87 percent), Hispanic women (76 percent), Hispanic men (65 percent), white women (42 percent) and white men (35 percent).
