Farscape
Nope, Ben Browder.
At least no Hercules, yet. That's a different show which name escapes me at the moment.
So far the first 2 episodes are pretty decent. A little research told me it was made in Australia. There is a hint there will be lots of alien sex in it.

Finished season 1.
The aliens are alien... in fact a couple of them were so hard to relate to as characters that they were annoying to me, which is why I took so long getting through the season.
That being said, they grow on you. Characters have depth; your first impressions often end up being wrong, and sometimes people have a bad day and act out of character. It's interesting.
Like Babylon 5, little details through the season build to something bigger by the end. Also, the show is not very episodic, either; the season is a big arc.
The production values are much better than B5, though, so don't let that comparison scare you off. I'd say the acting is also much better. B5 actors, even at the end, still didn't seem like they were comfortable in their roles. In my opinion. In this show half the aliens are Jim Henson muppets, which went a long way to making the aliens alien.
Then there's the sexy blue alien chick who, in the right light, has "photogasms."
I'll be watching season 2 as soon as I get caught up on S4 of Burn Notice so the new episodes don't clog up my DVR.

10 episodes into season 2. Almost gave up on it completely... a couple early annoying episodes with the peak of annoyance being the planet of the teenage stoners. Either my tolerance for annoyance is getting stronger, or the show is becoming less annoying.
Episode I just watched was down right Star Treky.
Oh - the entire series is on Netflix download.

Holy shit... I don't know what happened, but the 3 parter, "Look at the Pretty Princess" from right in the middle of the season took this show to an entirely new level. The plot, acting, set locations, score, and special effects jumped about 2 notches. This triple episode took the show from barely tolerable to very good. I hope it stays at this level.

It does, for the rest of season 2.
I'm halfway through season 3 and finding it a little hard to keep going. They went too far the other way, in some respects. But I must trudge through, because season 2 was so good.

I'm part way into season 3.... finished the 2 parter where Moya gets skewered.
There was an earlier episode where Pilot is trying to pull off a maneuver and is laughing maniacally... so out of character, I had to laugh along with him.
So far, liking this season... though the sexual tension between Chriton and Aeryn is a little stupid.
"I love you."
"I love you too. We should have sex, but with no emotions so it isn't complicated."
"No. Well, ok."
"No, I changed my mind, maybe this is better. And stop having emotions for me because I can't deal with it."

Personally, I like the more serious direction they are going in.
Half way through season 3. Just watched the one with "DRD Pike." Laughed every time he said that.

Dug season 3 the most, so far. They dropped the silliness of seasons 1 and 2 and SHIT GOT REAL.
And I was going to ask what sort of scale we were dealing with in this show, whether they were hopping solar systems or galaxies or what, but then in the final trilogy of episodes Scorpie mentions that the bad guys would overrun half the galaxy. So that explained that.
Also, I like how they changed Scorpius from a 2-dimension villain into a sympathetic character with actual understandable motives.

Except in the S4 opening credits Crichton says he was blown to the "other side of the universe" (I think that was the phrasing) and yet Scorpie tells us that earth is only 60 days away.GORDON wrote:And I was going to ask what sort of scale we were dealing with in this show, whether they were hopping solar systems or galaxies or what, but then in the final trilogy of episodes Scorpie mentions that the bad guys would overrun half the galaxy. So I dunno.

One more episode left for season 4, and have the Farscape movie dl'ing as I type.
I really enjoyed this show starting midway through season 2. I didn't think I was going to make it at first..... season 1 episodes seemed like such a chore.... but I am glad I stuck with it. I like how this ragtag band of misfits ended up becoming the dominant destructive force in the galaxy... all because people just couldn't stop fucking with them.
Too bad it was cancelled just as it hit its stride.

And the movie was outstanding... sort of had a Serenity vibe as it felt like they were rushing to fill in a lot of plotlines in 3 HOURS, which is pretty much a 4 episode long season 5.
On the strength of the last 2 season and the movie I could see myself picking up a BD pack of the series if one ever comes out.
