Stargate: Universe

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

******SG-Atlantis spoiler follows*******

Well at this point I am wondering why they don't fly Atlantis out to pick them up, since they developed "Wormhole Drive" in the Atlantis finale and jumped galaxies in, one presumes, 1.3 seconds.

Watched a few more episodes tonight, the one where the senator's daughter gets kidnapped by aliens, the mutiny one, and the one where they find that unexpected planet and peeps want to live there.

The show is improving... or maybe I am getting used to following the lives of a bunch of whiny shitheads.

One thing I wonder is... everyone seems to know the commander left the dick scientist on that planet on purpose, and peeps are rallying around the dick scientist for that reason.... WHY DON'T THEY SHOW THE VIDEO FOOTAGE OF THE DICK SCIENTIST FRAMING THE COMMANDER FOR MURDER? That would at least introduce some shades of gray into the civilian "all of these military people are mean assholes" mentality.

Sort of a tit-for-tat. I don't show the footage and destroy your credibility and you work with me to keep the peace on this rust bucket.

It's a shame. The scientist's back story is almost tragic but never fully explains his motivations and why he's such a dick. He has every right to be a callous asshole, but not a Machiavelian backstabber.

Ok, so now I know why dick scientist is a dick. Fine.

Also watched the episode where they are leaving the galaxy and then their FTL drive fails and then aliens attack. This show is actually introducing a little tension beyond who can be the shittiest person. That's good.

Powered through the last episodes.

Man, that Kiva bitch needs to die. Badly.

Also, the people invading the ship seem to be REALLY stupid. They came before they were ready, have no supplies or equipment, and only way they'll survive is to keep the people who have been there and know the ship happy, yet they're just going to kill everybody.

Actually had my first laugh of the show when General Jack O'Niell shows up on board and gives his good ol' "Hello!" to the first crewmate he sees. This show is so pregnant with its own seriousness that the good ol' Jack O'Niell inappropriateness catches you by surprise.

DVR is set, new season starts Tuesday, I believe.

Oh also it was good that Chavez E. Chavez got a redemption, because he was more asshole than I could stand.

I heard he does it with his horse.

Yeah, I like the actor but that character was too much of a dick.

Now it looks like his real personality might make him a pretty cool guy, so here's hoping that we finally get one of those in the show.

Eli is pretty cool, though.

New season starts tonight. I got through season 1 just in time.

Not sure how I feel about the magical aliens that save babies.

Bah. Morphine dream.

Sure, someone magically healed Zoe. But they didn't also magically heal TJ so there's no reason to think it's related to whatever was supposedly going on with her.

She saw that nebula (or whatever) in the 'morphine dream,' leading us to believe there is something to it.

And I am starting to think Chavez E. Chavez needs to take command. All Colonel Young did this episode is suck and almost die and got his entire crew marooned on Rock Quarry Lightning Planet. Then a few of his rogue crew saved the day, then he came back to the ship, got sad, and got drunk.

Not inspiring leadership.

Is that what that was supposed to be? Considering that nebulae are a stellar phenomenon rather than a galactic one, seeing the same nebulae as a large visible object from the viewpoint of two different galaxies is silly.

So, yeah, either morphine dream or silly magical aliens. *sigh*

Well, to be fair, magical aliens have been a part of Stargate for a long time with The Ascended, the Ori, etc.

I actually figured it was the Ascended taking a hand in things since the last episodes of season 1.

I just read on another forum that Chloe's healing leg is because she is a "Friendzone" Succubus, and she draws healing power from Eli's every longing glance.

Ha.

Aaaaand now we have characters that might be just imagination... or angels.

Where have I seen this before?

Nah, I think the imaginary friends are sub-conscience implants from his interaction with the chair. Still pretty lame. And if I remember correctly there was no nebula by the pulsar originally. I don't think that would happen in nature anyway, so we're back to magical aliens. Maybe this is a different sect of Ascended.

The 'chip implant' was a possibility Baltar explored in BSG at one point.

Ok, the one where they meet the seed ship...

Gaius Baltar, who has control of the bridge, couldn't just undock to stop the power transfer, and then hang out until Chavez was retrieved? He had to just immediately jump to warp?

Oh we'll see chavez again with his alien friends. That was bullshit leaving him there. I wonder if the doc is trying to get rid of the officers. Or maybe continue the facade that the ship is on autopilot.

Probably the latter.

But I find it exhausting to keep trying to like this show. I want to because of a sense of obligation towards John Scalzi and the Stargate folks. But I can't for much longer. It's just so ... blah.
