How much would you expect to pay for a decent legal consultation? My friends and I are trying to break out of our lease after being burgled three times in seven months, and apparently $100USD only gets you something best described as "blatantly wrong."

An older gentleman of my acquaintance suggested I set aside at least $500USD for it.

I thought most cities had landlord/tenant organizations to try to smooth out differences between the two party's before it ended up in court. The same places might be able to help find cheap legal aid. My last lawyer was 125$ an hour.

Yeah, $500 will get a competent guy interested, but only pay for a few hours of time.

Only time I needed a lawyer to help me against a landlord, I rang up the U's Legal Services department. Other than that, lawyers are expensive. $500 ain't shit to them.
