Conversation with my 4 year old son, a few minutes ago:

Him: I need to read my bible book
Me: Your what?
Him: My bible book.
Me: Who got you a bible book?
Him: It is a bible book for kids.
Me: Why do you need to read it?
Him: So I can learn about god.
Me: Who is telling you about god?
Him: Gramma. I need to learn about god so I know it.

Grrrr.

She knows this will piss me off, too.

"Okay, but while you read it, just remember..."

I was just hoping he would be a little older before he started getting exposed to this conflicting information from different members of his family.

This is the first step that leads to the cynicism of "almost everyone is full of shit." It makes me sad he is now on the path.

Better to start learning that early than get screwed over by it later. I'm assuming there's no kid versions of Thomas Hobbes or John Locke?

Best to combat fiction w\ nonfiction. Get him a copy of "The Art of War" or "The Prince."

I wish I'd had a parental figure capable of teaching me that young. Instead my parents were part of the porblem rather than the solution.

I had to learn it myself from Robert Heinlein when I was about six.

I was hoping to teach him to.... have the tools to make his own decisions, but later in life. I guess realistically I wasn't going to get much more than 4 years before he was exposed to such things.

No such luck. For the already programmed, it's never too early to start programming others.

I got a buddy I went to college w\, used to go drinking w\ a couple times a week -- he can't go more than 5 - 10 minutes w\o mentioning god in some way, shape, or form. Drinking time has gone down considerably.

Have his memory wiped and ship him to the island.
