From here.

I'm just feeling pleased with myself regarding my performance in school this semester.

If you know what I mean.

I imagine that some of the stuff those veterans saw and experienced gave them a different perspective on the relative difficulty of schoolwork.

Exactly.

I went to college right after high school... I was a fucktard and pissed the opportunity away. I went to college again after 4 years of the Marines... and college was ridiculously easy in comparison.

And here I am 8 years later, doing it just for fun.

Well, yeah, but it means "men" in a "mankind" kind of way. We've been known to <s>scare off</s>damn women here, from time to time.

I know my grandfather went through the same thing. Being shot at daily on Iwo Jima (even though the war was officially over, the Japanese were hiding everywhere and still fighting quite ferociously) and having to take the plane that you just got done rebuilding the engine in for a test spin for 30 minutes (talk about requiring confidence in your work, how often do we have that anymore?) ensured you weren't putting up with some 20 year old college senior's crap in school.

Those values were instilled in my father and me. Go to school, don't put up with other people's crap, and take care of business on the first try or you get to pay for it yourself if you are still allowed to stay. Hard work == 3 degrees in 6 years. Some people took that long just to get one (and barely at that). I never understood why people pissed away their college opportunities and caused the rest of the school to be dumbed down to pass them. But hey, that's life ;-)
