I went to the first movie expecting to be underwhelmed. Though I haven't caught "the fever", I've found the movies much more entertaining than I expecting. The movies aren't very good. As usual with these sort of things, the books are much better. There's a lot more story in each one than they can cram into two (or three) hours.

Someone told me about them 7 years ago... I think only the first two were out then. They raved about them like they were the best books EVER.
I read 70-80 pages into the first and thought "this is a kid's book... and not a very well-written/exciting one at that" and never read them again. Admittedly, my expectations were set way too high.
