Whatever you heard about this movie was wrong. It's even worse.
Holy shit. Sony needs to just fucking stop. License Spiderman back to Disney and stop making this garbage. They clearly have no idea what they're doing and are losing money hand over fist.
Where to even begin with this movie that's so bad, its star, Dakota Johnson, was publicly bashing it during the promotion tour.
The story starts off with the villain shooting a pregnant woman in her belly. Weird behavior for a villain in 2024 considering two years ago pointing a gun at a pregnant woman's belly made you a hero... Anyway, this guy goes on to live well, but has a premonition about his death. To stop it from coming true he thinks he needs to kill the three people responsible, who at this point are teenage girls. Lucky for them, that pregnant woman's daughter is on the case. She just happened to have her powers activated recently.
That last sentence is interesting to me for legal reasons. Being born with power that activates later would make her a mutant. Sony doesn't own the rights to mutants. If shit ever went totally south with Sony and Marvel, I think a lawyer could get creative about a lawsuit there.
The story might sound dumb, but the dialogue, directing, effects, and action all suck, so there's that. A lot of acting sucks too. It's like the most experienced actors knew they were in a bomb and phoned it in.
On top of all that, and this is the real kick in the dick, they shit all over Spiderman lore. First of all, the villain is wearing a dark version of the Spiderman suit publicly in NY. The only powers he and a whole village don't have that Spiderman has is the spider sense and webs. All get them via spider bite from a non radioactive spider. This implies anyone can go be Spiderman. Then they butcher the "With great power comes great responsibility" and turn it into "Accepting responsibility earns great power" or some shit like that.
