Honestly, I think it looks fun. Definitely more action than the first entry (I still haven't seen the second).
However, it also looks like a bait and switch. Jim Halpert is front and center at the beginning of the trailer, but then it looks like the black girl's story. Reminds me of a movie I saw many, many, many moons ago. The box for the movie had Kevin Costner and nobody else. Baseball movie. He was in the first five minutes and then never again.

It's fine, but somehow a bit boring despite having more action. Somehow they made the aliens less interesting, and introduced a weakness I had not been aware of, which might have been mentioned in the second movie I didn't see?
Lupita Nyong'o is the star of the movie, and it's really her story. She's the central focus, and Joseph Quinn plays a very specific contrast to her situation. In fact, everything else is in relation to her and her situation, which sounds like a big "duh", but you'll get it when you watch it.
Lupita is great and her story is touching, but I feel like the setting took away from it. I was focused on other questions, like "Without any real means of communicating, how did everyone figure out the sound thing?" Thus, my immersion level was not where it should have been.
Seeing Djimon Hounsou show up was also an odd distraction because he plays such a small role. Made me wonder if there are plans for him in this universe.
Even beyond those distractions, there are moments where it felt like some information was left on the cutting room floor. Not critical things, but things that made me focus on things other than the story.
Again, it's fine and Lupita's story is the best part, but it doesn't get to the level of the first film.
