Dirty Diana is his most underrated song, and all these years later, it does not sound dated.
“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”

Back then there was a dubious flirtation with metal guitars in pop songs.
Problem is, they didn't know how to use them.
In both this song, and Janet Jackson's "Black Cat," the metal guitar just matches the song vocals note for note. It's dumb. Makes me wonder if they had the same producer.

"Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid."

Being they're both Jacksons, probably.
Also, I like it. I wouldn't advocate it for all songs, and don't know Black Cat, but the style of Dirty Diana, it works for me.
