Hey now, they had a black player on the team. I think he was a token, though.

Obama Says Investigate Nifong
Another voice has joined the call for a federal investigation into the handling of the Duke Lacrosse case — this one with the punch of presidential politics.

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in a written response to a constituent, said that an "independent inquiry is needed" into the conduct of Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong.

Nifong prosecuted and led the investigation into the alleged sexual assault of an exotic dancer at a lacrosse team party in March 2006.

Obama cited the fact that Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., has already asked Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for a federal investigation into Nifong's conduct. ABC News has learned that similar requests have been made by Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., and Rep. Tom Feeney, R-Fla.

According to Obama's letter, Jones asked Gonzales to "review new evidence that Mr. Nifong withheld exculpatory DNA results from the defendants in order to determine if his conduct has illegally denied the students their civil rights as U.S. citizens under federal law."

Obama said of the call for a federal investigation that he "will be following its progress closely."

NC AG may finish review tomorrow.
The North Carolina Attorney General's office has finished its interviews and could announce a decision on whether to drop all charges against the three former Duke students as early as tomorrow in a Raleigh news conference, ABC news has learned.

The three lacrosse players were initially accused of raping an exotic dancer just over a year ago.

The state Attorney General took over the case in January, after Durham prosecutor Mike Nifong recused himself under pressure, claiming a conflict of interest because the State Bar Association charged him with misconduct in the case.

Two respected assistant attorneys general, James Coman and Mary D. Winstead, took over the case and re-interviewed many, if not all the witnesses in the case before the decision, which is expected to be announced as soon as tomorrow.

All charges dropped.
"We believe that these cases were the result of a tragic rush to accuse and a failure to verify serious allegations. Based on the significant inconsistencies between the evidence and the various accounts given by the accusing witness, we believe these three individuals are innocent of these charges." - Roy Cooper
...
Wednesday, defense sources told CNN the defense plans to pursue civil suits against Nifong no matter what decision was announced.

The same sources said there were no plans to sue the accuser, who was described as "a troubled soul."

Cooper would not comment on possible civil suits, but said, "I think a lot of people owe a lot of apologies to other people. I think that those people ought to consider doing that."

I think it's saying "so, maybe they weren't guilty this time, but we still all need to get in touch with our feelings and talk about it because we know the things they were accused of happen every day and really are a huge problem that needs to be worked out before someone else gets raped like this poor young woman was ... er, I mean wasn't ... maybe ... if you believe them, which I'm not sure I do ..."

I could be wrong, there's a lot of doublethink in there.

Too little, too late.

Would you stick around to play for a school that completely fucked you over, whether you were indicted or not, and basically accused you all of being out of control and/or rapists?

Fuck the administrators and faculty of Duke (at least the faculty who took part in the ad).

Ah, Duke... you were the ones who did this. Why are you begging the NCAA to now save part of your asses? They didn't cancel your season.

I was talking to a white woman student who was asking me “Why do people --and she meant black people -- make race such a big issue?”They don’t see race. They just don’t see it.

I'm so fucked and going to hell I guess because I have looked at it that way for a long time. If you don't make race an issue neither will I. Get on with life. Live and let live shit. I'm so fucked if this is the way it is.
