There was a pretty good sci-fi book about this awhile back. Basically, science is ruled to be bad, and the EcoFanatics are able to stop global warming ... which turns out to have been the only thing holding back the next ice age.

It's got a lot of inside sci-fi fan jokes most people won't get, but it's still a fun read.

Wasn't it shown during last hurricane season that they go in 40 year cycles of intensity?

I'm still not exactly clear on how they pin that hurricane 100 years ago that killed thousands in Texas on Bush/global warming.

I think I heard 20 year cycles, and last year was in line for an intensified cycle.
