Bequeathing your digital libraries

Post by GORDON »

So let's say I die, and in my safety deposit box is a list of account names and passwords for my kid, all my Steam games, my Ultraviolet movies and TV shows, Amazon account with all the digital content I've purchased, Vudu library. I hand it all over to my kid, after all, I paid a lot for all of that digital content.

Is that legally kosher, or do all those companies expect my library to disappear when I die?

This sort of thing is just on the horizon for legislation and recognition in wills. By the time you die, it'll be a standard.

For now most TOS make accounts non-transferable. But they're not going to notice if you just pass on the passwords and no one tells them.
