Disney is Buying Marvel

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

That's easy.

1. Marvel didn't do princesses.
2. Stan and his group weren't as ambitious as Walt.

I think the age of the target audience is part of it, too. Walt especially targeted the younger demographic, those kids that will watch something over and over and over, and latch onto a property and want to have everything possible associated with it. Marvel's audience is slightly older, when the brain cells are just beginning to fire and that much repitition gets boring.

Stan Lee comments on DISNEY Deal

In case you haven't heard Disney has reached an agreement with Marvel to purchase the company for $4 billion. It's not a done deal yet, as these things take time to finalize and the whole shebang needs to undergo review by anti-trust regulators, but both sides want to do it and it'll probably get done.

Reuters published comments from Marvel godfather and Chairman Emeritus Stan Lee who thinks the merging with the Mouse House with the House of Ideas is a good thing.

"To me, becoming 'Disneyfied' is not a bad thing. I mean look at (Disney) movies like 'Pirates of the Caribbean,'" Lee said. "Disney knows how to do movies. They know how to do colorful characters and I think the fans, if they think about it, they're going to love it."

If I had millions of dollars, I probably wouldn't care, either.

Does Disney ever do R movies? Or does this make it certain that all future Marvel comic property movies will be PG-13 or less?

Disney's doing a fine job producing the next generation of celebri-skanks.

Marvel's audience is slightly older, when the brain cells are just beginning to fire and that much repitition gets boring.

If you're implying that the largest audience for comic books is children, then you're wrong.

The Marvel "Adventures" line is indeed geared towards a younger audience, and does huge numbers. It's very much G rated just like their cartoons.

However, the key demos break down like this:
Males make up 80% of the comic buying audience. 55% are between the ages of 18-30. 33% are between 30-40. 7% are under 18 and 7% are over 40.

The interesting part in terms of sales is that the Adventure line, which is geared towards 7% of their audience does as good or better numbers than titles geared towards the 18+ crowd. Why? More choices for the 18+ crowd, thus their money gets spread out more.

It's the same numbers as video games. Society labels comic books and video games as "things for kids" yet the actual numbers show a very different picture.

Does Disney ever do R movies? Or does this make it certain that all future Marvel comic property movies will be PG-13 or less?

Disney has indeed made quite a few R rated films in the past. However, it's a proven that the box office for PG-13, PG, and G rated films are much higher than what R rated films pull in, thus Disney has learned to make a film PG-13 whenever possible.

Does that mean they're out of the R rated film business? I don't think so. If I remember correctly, Disney owns a studio or two that can cater to more adult audiences by making horror films or dramas geared towards adults, and then can do so without the Disney label.

However, don't expect any Marvel movies to ever be released with an R rating. Sure, it'd be cool, but it wouldn't make good business sense.

On the contrary, that is the exact opposite of what I was trying to imply.

55% are between the ages of 18-30

That's when the brain starts to work a little, yes.

Ha!

I'd point out to you that you're pulling my leg and you did mean teens or tweens, but your follow up argument is pure fact.

Just thinking about this today with the announcement of Disney purchasing the distribution rights for Iron Man 3 and The Avengers...

Marvel related movies that WILL hit theaters in the next few years:
Spiderman (Sony)
Wolverine (Sony)
X-Men: First Class (Sony)
Thor (Disney)
Captain America (Disney)
Avengers (Disney)
Iron Man 3 (Disney)

Other movies possibly in the works:
Daredevil
Ghost Rider
Hulk (he WILL be in The Avengers)
Deadpool
Fantastic Four

Meanwhile, over on the DC/Warner Brothers side of things, you've got films coming about:
Superman
Batman
Wonder Woman
Green Lantern
Flash

That doesn't even include all the animated features (usually direct to DVD), which DC is very good at (4 a year), and one would assume Marvel is going to become great at...

Nor does any of this include titles from the other publishers, indy lines, or adult lines for the "big two" (For example: Kick Ass was a Marvel film. As will be Nemesis and Superior.).

If you factor in G.I. Joe (comic), Transformers, a couple of random remakes, MIB 3 (another comic), another Jackass, another Paranormal Activity, and a few other horror movies, you've just listed out the summer film seasons for the next 4-5 years.

Disney is Buying Marvel

Leisher wrote: Back on topic, I saw this quote in an article about the deal:
Another person asked about possible cross pollination between Marvel and Pixar: "We actually have had some conversations internally, and [Pixar's] John Lasseter met with some of the key Marvel creative executives fairly recently and the group got very excited pretty fast," Iger said.

Iger, Disney's CEO, really stresses throughout the press conference that they are not going to pretend they know the characters or how to properly utilize them better than Marvel. However, they want to use their marketing abilities to further promote them.

All the analysis I read on this deal says Disney is the company you want to purchase your company. They're very hands off and do not come in preaching change. The analysts say that's why their mergers and acquisitions are usually so successful.
It seems to have worked out.

Bob Iger returns to oust the terrible Bob Chapek.

This is a much bigger story than what you'll hear. This is a massive, massive deal.

Things I'm hearing that people should be looking for:
-Lots of firings, particularly of Chapek's people.
-A rollback of price gouging policies at the theme parks.
-A "big" move like a merger with Netflix, the selling of ESPN, maybe the buyout of Peacock?

(Peacock is struggling badly. NBC is going to have to pull the plug on it sooner rather than later.)

Most people's wishlist for Iger:
1. Fire Kathleen Kennedy and her entire team.
2. End the woke projects.

Removing the Magic Express was pretty much all anyone needs to know about how the previous guy felt about Disney's park visitors.

I listened to a Hollywood reporter/insider this morning say that this would be the top things people are discussing in the entertainment industry for months. That's saying something in an industry they really only pays attention to the last 5 minutes.

Activist investor Nelson Peltz is apparently campaigning to get onto the Disney board where he would then insist upon a no confidence vote in Bob Iger.

There are also rumors that Disney might sell Star Wars. Fuck are they stupid. JUST FIRE KATHLEEN KENNEDY AND HER STAFF!!! The entire world has been telling you idiots this for years.
