Iron Man - revealed

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

I suppose I need to put this warning here. The next sentence I say could be interpreted as a spoiler of sorts, so if you don't want to know it, stop reading now.

At least the substance abuse scenes will be fairly realistic.

The comic debuted in the 1960s, and Iron Man's origin involved Stark being a prisoner of the Viet Cong. The movie version will be set in today's geopolitical climate.

Any bets on what they mean by that? Muslim extremists? Facist Republicans? An evil megacorporation?

He is a good actor. As long as he is off the blow and the role is well written.

The face is wrong.

Downey's baby face doesn't scream industrialist, playboy, scientist, alcoholic, and super hero.

True. I think Tom Sellack would have been a good pick 15 or 20 years ago.

Well hell, if time is no worry, then I vote for George Peppard circa 1960s.

The armor.

Considering they seem to be focusing on the origin story, that old armor makes sense. No word if we'll see the current armor in this film or in a sequel.

Trailer

Looks promising. No sign of the Mandarin though.

Just got a text and voicemail from my cousin, who is not a comic book guy by any means, regarding Iron Man. He was invited by Paramount to see a screening as he has a press ID and he is giving it his highest recommendations. He says it's easily the best comic book movie ever made.

Beats the Batman flicks, given that we forget the two Schumaker efforts?

All I hope is that it isn't formulaic. Is that to much to ask, for something I haven't already seen 20 times?

Hey, remember Fantasic Four, and its sequel? Yeah, me neither. But it seems to have made pretty good money at the box office.

That sort of thing.

BTW, from what I've seen in the trailers, the new Hulk movie looks formulaic, right down to having an end-boss/antagonist with the same fucking powers as the Hulk. Come on.

Uh...that's not a Hollywood product. It's the Abomination, a classic Hulk villain.

You're not exactly being fair either. Every story has a hero, a villain who is usually a bit better, and an ending where the hero overcomes the odds. EVERY story is formulaic. They all have a beginning, ending, and a challenge for the characters in the middle right?

What would you like instead? I mean, he's the fucking Hulk as in "Hulk smash!" Hulk has defeated pretty much everyone. Hulk has fought Superman. What would you like him to fight? Bank Robbers? Maybe they could do a movie where Hulk helps Chris Hansen on "To Catch a Predator"? How about Hulk Driving Miss Daisy?

We've seen a TV series and a movie and Hulk has to yet to actually hit anyone. I, for one, am looking forward to Hulk actually being able to fight something other than a cloud.

Maybe if this movie does well enough they'll bring in the Leader for the next film. He's also a gamma based monster, but he's small and smart as opposed to being a super strong giant.

Saying that I don't want to be bored and want to see something new is unfair? Do you have a low opinion of the film makers?
