The Sound of Metal

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Some movie on Amazon Prime. I think I heard it won an award or something.

A flick about a drummer in a metal band that loses his hearing in the span of 24 hours. The movie is about his life immediately after.

I think some would say something like "He found inner peace" but I thought it was a depressing study of a man losing everything in his life.

The more I think about it, the shittier the deaf community seems

he went deaf, and panicked, and glommed on to this "being deaf isn't something that needs to be fixed" community.
They immediately cut him off from his career and family. She moves on without him, because to her he's just gone. When he finally gets away from the cult, he has nothing left, not even her.

If he'd taken a few weeks to get used to the new reality, with her help, he could have learned to sign, and learned to keep a beat in a new way. They'd barely miss any gigs, and have each other

So, yeah, this movie seems pretty subversive. Deaf cult doesn't look good.
