General Marvel Movie & TV Show News

A catch all thread...

Downey is refusing to do any more movies.

The stipulation being that he won't do any more movies unless Marvel starts paying his co-stars appropriately.

Kudos to him for making this stand, and I agree.

Marvel is cheap as hell, and apparently that's a reflection of the guy who runs the studio. Apparently, he's a cheap fuck.

This is an area where Disney needs to step in and tell Marvel, "Listen, you guys make the movies, and let us deal with the contracts."

The Avengers made over a BILLION dollars, and you're stiffing the talent involved? That's beyond stupid.

How do short sighted assholes like this get into the positions they're in? There's a got to be a lot of spent cocks on the way to the Marvel studios president's office...

We talking the founder, Avi Arad, or the prez of production, Kevin Feige?
In fact, the studio has already threatened to replace Hemsworth.

Avengers 2: starring Triple H as Thor.

But Marvel doesn't want to replace Downey at this point and it seems that the actor is using that leverage to fight for his co-stars by threatening not to return for "Iron Man 4" and possibly any other Marvel film unless they all get appropriate pay raises.

Shelf the script, tell everyone to fuck off, reboot in 5-10 years with a new cast. Like there aren't enough superheroes to make movies with.

Thib's on fire.

Kevin Feige

That's the guy I hear is the problem.

Nah, strike while the iron is hot. Pay your actors.

You could easily pay all the leads $10 million each and still make over a BILLION dollars for yourself on Avengers 2.

The rights to Taskmaster are back with Marvel.

He's a pretty cool character and walks the line between hero and villain, but mostly mercs for villains.

Downey hinting at IM4. Funny if you go back and read the first comment in this thread.

I think Downey "gets it" where a lot of actors don't. You're playing a characters that is ridiculously popular, that people identify you with, and in hugely successful films both financially and critically. It makes no sense to walk away. So many times we see actors walk away from big roles like this and then regret it or develop a resentment towards what put them on the map.

Harrison Ford is a great example and a confusing one. Why he hated Han Solo so much never made a lot of sense to me. It put him on the map, yet didn't overshadow his career. I wasn't watching Air Force One thinking "President Solo" is going to kick ass.

He hates that character now, too. Ford is a hippie who just happens to look masculine.

Downey got to do all the "artsy" stuff back when he was snorting a crap ton of coke. Never made just a ton of money. So he's gotten "the art" out of his system and decided being richer than hell is much better.

Typically, I'd tell people to get bent over this stuff, but Disney is having a serious issue with females in action movies. They include them and all that, but they don't think girls are into it. Disney put too much stock into stereotypes about gender.

That's why this is a controversy and why Disney was completely caught off guard with Rey being the breakout star of Episode VII and not Emo Vader.

A large portion of Disney's fortune is built on strong gender stereotyping. That's because in the past it wasn't just stereotypes, it was mostly right.

But times change, as they always do. Gender stereotypes are changing as well. Those lines are getting seriously blurred in the younger generations, and that's a large part of why Rey was the breakout star of VII.

Disney has been changing with the times. They didn't buy Star Wars and Marvel for the girls market, which they already dominated. It was to get boys. They just didn't realize that girls like that stuff too.

Because the people running Marvel comics right now are doing ANYTHING they can to boost sagging sales, Captain America has been a HYrda agent all along.

Just fucking stupid.
