Transformers (2007)

As long as we recognize Lucas is washed up and most TV sucks, we'll all get along fine.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I think I saw a microphone boom in one of the classroom scenes. I said, "What the hell was that fuzzy thing over his head?"

Then everyone else said "shhhhh" because I was in a movie theatre.

I knew very little about the franchise. I knew enough to know there's good guys and bad guys and stuff. But no real deapth. That being said, I thought it was very cool. I saw the mass of fighting robot, but was able to tell them apart. I liked the fast transformations as they dove at eachother, etc. I liked all the comedy in it. Probably because I had no expectations or familiarity of the characters. Over all, I guess the movie was more about the kid than the robots. The robots played about as much part as the random marines did. But, I still found it very entertaining.

By the way, Bumblebee beat the shit out of a bug Bernie was trying to push on them at the dealership.

And all product placement/character consistancy stuff aside. . . the new Camaro is pretty damn sweet.

Soon as the opening box office totals were in, I knew there'd be at least one more. I will not be seeing any more pieces of shit in this to-be-franchise until Bay stops making it suck ass.

The phrase "raping our collective childhoods" is uncannily close to my buddy's description of the film.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I enjoyed this film.

I went into this thinking it was going to be a steaming pile of shit. Michael Bay + a property from my youth? No way could it live up to the hype.

Well, it didn't, but it wasn't a disaster either.

The storyline was enough to move everything along outside of some serious logic flaws (Yet again Hollywood shows it doesn't know a fucking thing about the military or how to wage war and protect civilians.) and the shitty way they treated the secondary characters like Jazz and Starscream.

Maybe next time they'll make a movie that's more about the Transformer than the humans.

As a film about THE Transformers, it'd rank as a 4 out of 10 film.

But, as a simple action flick involving the Transformers, I'd rank it at a 7 out of 10.

I have a hard time getting past the mind-breaking stupidity of "take it to the city, thats' the only place the choppers can pick us up" and all the various implications of idiocy that comes with that.

I still enjoy it, but every time I think about that one little thing I am struck dumb.

Eh, that I can live with. After all, they had to have picked up English from broadcasts, right? What sort of language are we broadcasting into space these days? We're lucky we only got "oops, my bad"; it coulda been much worse.

The one of Bumblebee pissing on the FBI dude was bad, too. But seeing Optimus Prime mangle some lawn ornament & then say, "My bad," was painful as well.

Just could have been sooo much more kick-ass, but they didn't want to alienate the kiddies, or something.

Oh well, I'm sure they'll churn out similar shit in the sequel, since the first time it sold so magnificently. Sure as fuck won't be getting my $5.50, though.

Most of those complaints are "Transformers" complaints, so my statement still stands about it being ok as a movie with Transformers in it, but not ABOUT Transformers.

I honestly think expecting to hate it really helped me enjoy the movie.

I do find it hilarious that people in Hollywood have all these opinions on the military and they think they are absolutely untouchable in terms of their opinions, yet they continue to make movies in which they have the military doing shit they would never remotely do because it's just sooooo ignorant.

Oh, you're a civilian? Let us show you every secret we've ever kept, even the stuff we hid from Presidents. Oh, and bring along your girlfriend too!

Sure as fuck won't be getting my $5.50, though.

Please tell me that's a rental price.

Student ID. The anticipation for it was high amongst my group of folk. My buddy & myself saw it on a sneak preview a night or two before. Only then did the assiness become clear. I hearby trademark the term "assiness."

Expectations matter a lot.

Titanic wasn't so bad since I expected it to suck so hard.

As I've stated in many a review before, I can be overly harsh. My sainted self-restraint usually prevents such things, though.
