It's really not their fault. It's just that their every instinct, belief, and decision is generally wrong.

My local theater chain with the movie subscription that's actually good and sustainable is in trouble.

Hope it works out. I rather enjoy how Cinemark runs their theaters.

Movie theaters need to lean harder into the experience.
Deliver food/drink to seats.
Big comfy seats that recline, heat up, etc.
Massive screens that can't be duplicated at home.
Visible security for the family crowd.
Zero tolerance policy for disruptive teens.
Higher quality food.
Bathroom attendants.
They have to realize they're now competing with the comfort of staying at home.
Hell, I'd offer money off tickets to customers who showed up wearing nice clothes. (Have a listed guideline.) Really start pushing the concept of going out to the movies as an event again. Make it akin to going to a musical or the opera.
The status quo is just going to lead to ruin.

Last I heard, Alamo Drafthouse did all this. They even use customer complaints as comedic "We TOLD you we were serious about kicking you out" warnings.Leisher wrote: Movie theaters need to lean harder into the experience.

As much as any other movie theater chain. They were even branching out into other cities, as of last year.

Moviepass is back, but different
The new MoviePass will relaunch on Sept. 5 and a wait list will open later this week, a spokesman for the company said Monday.
But the feature that previously made MoviePass popular—and ultimately led to its demise—won’t return: There won’t be an option to watch a movie a day, the spokesman said.
Instead, subscribers will pay either $10, $20 or $30 a month, depending on where they live, and get credits to watch movies in a theater. The spokesman declined to say how many movies subscribers can watch in a month. He said more details are expected to come later.

I paused my cinemark club, because it went up a dollar to $9, and the credits carried over and there just weren't many movies I wanted to see in theaters. Plus my kid is now such a snob he wont go see the bad movies with me.... he doesn't understand that for the 50 classics I've watched with him, I had to sit through 500 movies to find the classics. It gives one perspective.
Anyway, cinemark club is still better than that.
