Disco Elysium

This was "Overwhelmingly Positive" for a while on Steam and has really good reviews in the gaming media. Thus, I was pretty excited about finding it in my library. However, I'm thinking it's not for me.

It's fucking weird.

The art style is cool-ish, but the writing, while top notch, is really strange.

Long story short: You know how in most RPGs you grind levels by fighting enemies so you can beat better enemies? Here you grind levels by talking. Talking. So that when you talk to someone else, you then have the right level to win the conversation.

Don't worry though as you can also walk around and collect bottles to sell them so you can pay off your bar tab and other things. I don't there's any combat at all.

The story is you wake up in a hotel room after being dead drunk. You then get up and eventually make your way to meet a cop downstairs and find out you're a cop too. Maybe? You're not even sure you're human. Anyway, you have to solve a murder.

I might never want to play it again. I might want to load it up again as soon as I get home.

You can die in the very first room just putting your clothes on...

So, first impressions are: I don't know!
“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”
