From here.

So a school district in lovely Maine wants to give middle school girls "the pill" without their parents' permission.

Do you agree with this action?

What's next, a school can administer Ridilin to your kid without your knowledge?

ANd some girls have health problems that can be aggrivated by the pill... and if you don't tell the school, or hell, maybe you don't even know yet because she's only 11... then the school legally kills your kid. Sorry!

No. I'd sue my local school district if they started drugging my kid. They can pay for me to send him to a private school, instead.

Moved to the front page.

Also, I wanted to provide a link, and the link said it was Maine. Was there another one in Vermont, or was that a faux pas?

While I do not approve of fueling the fire of legal inconsistency, one supposes they're just proposing to offer birth control on demand, when/if need be, just in case, etc. Course, quite frankly, if you ain't smart or resourceful enough to locate a condom & use it properly, you probably aren't savvy enough to breed. & birth control pills certainly force the body to do unnatural things which no doubt have consequences, so some sort of medical evaluation would be required, one would think.

I am, however, a fan of endless numbers of "last resorts" such as these (one can never have too many options), & of the de-Puritanization of sex. & it seems to be making a lot of people uncomfortable. That's always at least fun to watch.

I'd rather vote for widespread forced sterilization, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

So they have doctors in the schools to administer the pill properly? If that's the case, we can just move a little further along and have state sponsored health care.
Wadda mean? Other people can read this?!

At King Middle School, birth control prescriptions will be given after a student undergoes a physical exam by a physician or nurse practitioner, said Lisa Belanger, who oversees Portland's student health centers.

Long as the drug doesn't kill you, I can't imagine administering it would be too difficult.

Does it kinda piss me off that (theoretically speaking) I pay for this? Yeah. But it pisses me off a lot less than a rejected (mentally, emotionally) kid. If it comes down to perennially fucked up, unstable child or nothing, from the economic standpoint, I pick nothing every time.

I had heard Vermont originally or thought I had. The sidenote, however, is still about Vermont. It's apparently become a mecca of sorts for child molesters.

I'm sure that's a comforting thought to those who live there.

Hmmm... the decision was made skewing the results of a poll... and when unskewed... the poll pretty much reflects this dtman poll?

Damn. I'm still torn on this. On one hand, it's a chance (statistically) for fewer stupid people to be born. On the other hand, it's governmental intrusion & meddling. Christ, once someone becomes able to breed, you can't treat them like you previously did. They are dangerous forever after.

Amazing the number of parents = number of people saying birth control can be issued with parental consent.
