It will come down to the contents of that update. If the primary purpose of the "security update" was to kill the hacked phones and third party programs and that can be demonstrated in court, then they may have a case that Apple knowingly targeted those users and we may see some new ground broken in consumer rights. If the bricking is just a side effect of a much larger update then the case will probably be a fizzle in that arena.

Even if killing the hacked units was the intent, I would think anyone wanting to prove that would have a nigh impossible time doing so.

I think the lawsuits are full of crap.

Mfrs don't have the right to set their own prices? whatever.

And once you tinker with a product, you are voiding the warranty, so why should Apple support you?

Well, there's a difference between non-support and intentional destruction.

That's the only hope that lawsuit has, and it's a slim one at that.

So my new phones does Windows Mobile. And I can write apps for it, download apps, I can make ringtones out of any mp3, it does 3G Internet, etc, etc, etc.

So why the fuck do people want an iPhone?

Exactly.

Maybe they want to show the world what a free-thinking individual they are... god forbid they are caught not owning the newest big thing.

I like the nifty interface. Using up real estate for hardcoded buttons annoys me.

But everything else about it is crap. I'm waiting for the <s>second</s> third-gen (and third-party) iphones.

I like the user interface... until I try to do the things my Windows Mobile can do. Sure, it's not as pretty. If you want pretty, and just want to make calls/play music/surf the web slowly - get the iPhone. It does those things beautifully (4 of my co-workers have one, so I've used it a fair amount).

But going through emails, writing emails, interacting with the web, doing contacts/schedules/tasks, corporate email, etc - are all better on my Windows Mobile.

My only gripes are 1) I wish it had more program RAM and 2) I wish I could expand more than 2GB storage (miniSD)
