Gordon, that Michelangelo's place is also in Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach, same apparent owner as the one in Jacksonville. I thought the pizza was decent, NY style, but generic. But, they served it by the slice was it wasn't fresh. Maybe it's better as a whole pie.
I didn't have it on the recent trip, so it's been about 10 years.... my memory may make it better than it is.

I have to take a trip to the rat hole that is NYC some time to give their product an even shake. As it is, Chicago is kicking ass.

I've often contemplated a cross country food tour, driving hours and hours and hitting the best food in every region of the country... not the fanciest or the swankiest, but the foods the region is known for. Lobster in Maine, bbq in memphis, roast beef in houston, etc. I could see a pizza tour the same way.

But then I really obsess over food sometimes.

Hit Fisherman's Wharf on the Frisco pier when I was there, and some hole in the wall seafood joint near San Diego. Fucking awesome. I still have the vaguest of vague recollections of being in Hawaii when I was about five and having the best pineapple in existence straight off the factory line at the Dole plant.

Cutting a fresh pineapple from the grocery store is miles ahead of the shit you get in a can.

Yeah, the first time I had a banana in Mexico, which actually ripened on the tree, I was like 'holy shit!'

Sadly, the first time I had a fresh off the tree coconut in Costa Rica, it still tasted like a coconut.

That must be some really shitty pizza.
Marco's isnt great pizza... but their old fashioned pepperoni is perfection.

Seriously. I wish all pepperoni were that good.

Put that pepperoni on Jet's Pizza, and I'm in heaven.

I really wonder about the inconsistencies in franchises.

Marcos quality is a lot higher here than what you folks describe, but they originated and are based here.

I don't know what a Gumby's is dammit!

Jet's, while not a "joke", is just a middle of the road offering with a very small presence in this market.

Marco's and Jet's here are pretty similar. But I give the edge to Jet's due to their 8 corner pizza. It's Detroit style crispy cheese on the edges deliciousness. Marco's just doesn't have the same flavor profile.

Gumby's is cheap, you're high/drunk at 1am in college and need pizza. When I was in college, I think you could get a 30" pizza for $10 or something crazy cheap.

Yeah, I remember those corners. Last time I got one I was thinking: "This is how you save on toppings..."

Clearly you do not properly appreciate crusty cheese.

All pizza places sell bread sticks. If I wanted them, I'd order them.

A bread stick with cheese on it is still a bread stick.
