A cat is in, and the iron is out.

If any press is good press, this is a win for Monopoly despite the negative feedback they've been getting from this whole thing.

People still play Monopoly? On a board? People under 90?

Board games are still huge, and will continue to be huge for quite some time.

"Game night" is a big thing among couples. It's about getting together to play board games, but really it's about getting together to drink.

Also, families still play board games...well, the ones where the parents spend time with their kids...

Maybe I know too many nerds, but "Mario Kart" and its ilk often replaces "board games" in that sentence.

How many married couples do you hang out with?

Certain video games are absolutely party games, but I'm telling you, board games are still a thing, and will continue to be a thing.

Lots of reasons why from game design to social interaction, but board games are not in danger of losing their place in society...yet.

I'm pissed enough when I have to wait for cards to get shuffled and dealt to five people (although it provides ample opportunity to gauge reactions to hands). I'm not waiting for some motherfucking dumbass to figure out how much he can mortgage Park Place for and various other crap. Let the machine do it.

Good, you'll have no problem sitting there while the software is running through some long animation.

I play games with my family on the Wii, and some of the loading screens are brutal.

Plus, design decisions to try and adapt board games to electronic ones equal boring gameplay. Clue is a prime example.

During party games, the amount of time wasted from animations is nowhere near the amount of time wasted from people not paying attention. I distinctly remember playing poker with a buddy of mine who was famous for not realizing he had the winning hand, even when everyone's cards were face up on the table. We once waited a full minute for him to take the pot after everyone except him determined he'd won. He was staring blankly into some little world only he could see, waiting for someone else to take the chips.

I always found Clue a bit boring anyway. There's a certain amount of wheeling and dealing that can go on in Monopoly ("I'll give you this property if you give me a freebie next time I hit one of your railroads"), but if that's the kind of thing you're going for, you're better off with something like Apples to Apples. Minimal setup, infinitely replayable, brainless rules, and a single game doesn't take half a day for a proper finish.

Board games are a huge thing, but not Monopoly and Clue. Those are crap, and get played less every year.

More and more people are turning to more creative board games, thank goodness.
