Win7 64 bit is able to install printers much better than Win Vista64 was. When I had Vista64 installed it was a pain to find the 64 bit driver for my 5 year old printer. Win7 just went to Windows Update and loaded it for me.

Disable User Account Control in Win 7 (and Vista):

It is different than Vista with a slider bar, so I didn't immediately think it was what it was when I first found it.

You can just dock things directly on the taskbar, so it's like quick launch & docking in one.

Change the shutdown option in start menu to something else.

I accidentally hit shutdown about once every few months, when most often, I just want my laptop to sleep.

I think they are sabotaging Win7. It was extremely simple to do this install at first, and now it is full of problems since they are pushing Win10.

Here's the updates from before that that I decided not to install for one reason or another. If you have any of those last three installed that might be the problem. If not then it's something newer I haven't seen yet.

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB971033)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2952664)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3035583)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3068708)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3075851)

Say goodbye to selectable updates.
Microsoft yesterday announced that beginning in October it will offer only cumulative security updates for Windows 7 and 8.1, ending the decades-old practice of letting customers choose which patches they apply.
Hold back the W10 forced upgrades while you can.

I have completely turned off updates, just to be safe. At this point windows update poses more danger to the integrity of my system than any unpatched security problems possibly could.

Yeah, I turned updates off all over the house. I had done the same thing on the systems at my mom's restaurant, too.... and then one morning Windows 10 installed, overnight. It took her several hours on tech support to get her POS software working.

We went Windows 10 on the kids machines (2 hours of support since Windows said the key was invalid... "how the fuck is the key invalid for free software?"). Wife's machine came with W10.

I kinda want it for the Android + Windows integration.

Here's a cheat sheet to get updates working in Win7 after a fresh install. It only takes about 5 downloads and 5 reboots, but in the end it worked for me.

Windows 7 will be missed.

It was a good dog that was taken out back and shot in the head, because they wanted to give the new puppy more attention. Fucked up.

They tried repeatedly to replace it, but failed each time until they basically copied it with a "permanent OS".

My entire laptop "bluescreened" today to tell me no more support.

I didn't even realize it was Win7. Too stable to pay attention.
