We need this thread because I find myself tech supporting Win8 machines lately and I don't know what the fuck microsoft was thinking.

Anyway, user had a malware-addled system, the kind that blocks you from loading AVG and Malwarebytes after the fact, and stops you from booting into safe mode, and all I could figure was to scratch/reload. Of course the user didn't have the recovery disks, and there was no recovery partition on the hard drive..... but some googling taught me that Win8 had a recovery option sort of built in. So, I was able to scratch/reload Win8 from within Win8. I should have made this note yesterday when I could remember the name of the system tool I searched/used.

Anyway, to get anywhere around this system I had to install a program called "Classic Shell" which brings back the start button and I can make all context menus and stuff look like Win7. Classic Shell is a nice tool for this POS OS.

Shoot your machine, and reload Windows 7.
It's not me, it's someone else.

Pretty much what I told her, but I didn't want to waste a Windows 7 Home Premium license on her, wink.
