I am shopping for a new phone TODAY.

Is Ting still awesome?

And what is the current best phone in the $250 neighborhood?

But it looks like Verizon wants to give me $300 to trade in my old phone and get one of theirs...

I am getting rid of a Droid Ultra.

How does this compare to it?

It seems to be favorable. This isn't a refurb, is it? The description says, "This device has been thoroughly tested..."

Galaxy S6 is the newest and best, right? It's the one all the cool kids are getting?

Ting is still awesome.

Verizon is just trying to suck you into their contract. Make sure it's worth it.

I have no opinions to offer on your other items.

I use Google Fi + Google Nexus 5X.

I enjoy them together. Fi = Ting (Sprint) + T-Mobile's network. The 5X is a bit more pricey at $379.

Google Fi = $20/month for unlimited text + talk per line. Additionally, data = $10/GB. You preselect usage (like 1GB), then if you use less, you get a pro-rated refund, if you use more, you pay more, pro-ratted.

Never heard of Fi, looked into it, thought, "Wow, I want that." Went and signed up with my google account and zip code.
We're still determining your status. Check back here in a week for an update.

It only works with the 6x, 6, and 5x.

Yeah, I'll go big if I have to. I like the pricing of that plan.

The only thing I'm wary of is that it like to move your calls to wifi if it can. And that's a bit laggy in some places.

I'm sitting here right now looking at my Verizon bill..... I am being charged $40 on two separate devices for the same shared 4GB of data. $80, and the wife uses 3.5 GB a month, and I use less than .5GB.

And, we have a regular dumb phone for the kid, and we are paying $7 EVERY MONTH to have access to a "Tech Coach" that we can call whenever we want that will teach us to use that phone better. I NEVER authorized anything like that.

This is making me angry.

The nice thing about metered internet (Ting/Google Fi) is you actually think about what you need to use. I average 0.5 - 1.0GB/month.

I just realized Verizon is worst than I thought.

I am pying $60 for 4GB of data every month.

Then I am paying $40 "Access Fee" on my phone to get that data.
Then I am paying $40 "Access Fee" on my wife's phone to get that data.
Then I am paying $10 "Access Fee" on my wife's tablet to get that data.

$150 for a shared phone data plan of 4GB/month. Does this sound insane, or is it just me?

I am learning this shit as I go here...

Can Ting connect up my wife's tablet? It has a phone number apparently, but it only uses data.

As long as it's compatible with their networks it should work. They use both Sprint and T-Mobile. Some of the answers you seek are on their coverage faq. And don't hesitate to call 'em, I've found their customer service reps to be top notch so far (and when I called there was no hold waiting time, it was just answered by a person on ring two).

What's strange is that when I plug in all FIVE of our devices in on Ting's "estimate my bill" page, it says I wouldn't save money moving everything to them. I think it's my wife's 3+GB of data every month.

But we'll save money just moving me over, so I may do that. And I already cancelled the fucking "Tech Coach" fucking bullshit.

I think I am going to give Google Fi a week to approve me, and if they wont then I will go to Ting.

You can quit Fi and Ting whenever you want. So if you don't like Ting, you can move over.

If you sign up for Ting, use TPR's referral code.

Yes, that sounds insane.

Ting is $7 / line + the talk/text/data charges.

The calculator I'm looking at says $100 for what you've outlined, + taxes.

The data on Ting is expensive ($15/GB). Only $10/GB on Fi.

Yeah, I bet I am the first person within 50 miles to sign up for G Fi, so I'm hoping they will want me to try it out for them.

Like I said, I'm giving them a week to make a decision, then I am going to Ting.
