If your phone is >15 months old, it's your battery.

I use Tasker or something like it to turn stuff off based on where I am, or time of day, etc.

On the other hand, my Nexus 5 has had some pretty solid battery life. Unless I'm using the screen for hours at a time.

Problem with my last Droid was that after 2 years, the battery was "expanding." Like puffing out. Wouldn't hold a charge. I went to replace the battery, and I was told they don't carry batteries any more. Yes, I could have probably found my battery on amazon, but time was a factor.

They want you to buy a new phone after 2 years, period. This is why with the new ones you can't pull the battery at all.

Not quite 14 months.

I am convinced that I'll never be rich because I'd never spend money on shit like that.

Verizon is dropping yearly phone plans, going month-to-month.

I guess it's time to go in and review my options. My current Android is about 2 years old and the screen is going out.

If you are changing providers, I recommend checking out Ting. They're pretty awesome. Which is not a thing you often hear about a cell service provider.

Yeah, I have been tempted by them in the past.... the only thing that stopped me is that the Verizon network is the only good one I can hit cleanly out here in the boonies. Doesn't it use the T-Mobile network?

It uses Sprint.

So if you have good Sprint coverage, it's awesome. If not, it sucks.

Our highest bill for 2 people has been $50 in 1 month.

They still use Sprint as their CDMA network, but they also have GSM now. I haven't seen the network named, but it may be worth looking at the coverage map to see how it looks for your area now: http://ting.com/coverage

My new phone is running on their GSM network.

Actually it looks like my region is pretty well covered.

But that map is mostly dead zones, and I travel a lot.... are they growing?

True, they do have GSM.

I use LTE, mostly.

I don't know about a lot. But there's no roaming charges. Roaming voice and text are covered; there's no roaming access to data.

If you mostly travel to cities you'll probably be good. I think a lot of the dead zones are rural.

So what's a good phone for about $200? Usually I just go to the Verizon store and let them sell me whatever they have the most of in stock that they need to push. I basically want to be able to hit the internet to check movie times, play my mp3s while I mow the back .40, and watch Netflix sometimes. And sometimes make phone calls on it.

Android. No iphones or windows phones.

I love my Nexus 5, but I'm not sure if you can still buy them, and they are 1.5 years old now.

I'm loving my MOTO E2 (the 2015 model). Cost me about $120, and is the most powerful small smartphone currently on the market.

But small was my first requirement. If you don't care about small there are many more powerful ones out there.
