Vaping

Post by GORDON »

Been listening to the radio a lot lately while doing various projects. I have been hearing a lot of commercials for "vaping" lounges where one is welcome to go and partake of their electronic cigarettes. It looks like they are coining a new word, "vaping," which I guess is the act of inhaling the vapor from an e-cig.

I dunno. For some reason the word "vaping" sounds really gay to me. Nowhere near as cool as "smoking." Is the word a regional thing, or have y'all heard of it?

Never heard of it. Seems odd.

I think it's the accepted word.

I think you're just projecting your gay desires on the world.
It's not me, it's someone else.

I listened closely to one of the "vaping lounge" commercials today and the place was saying their... hardware or whatever... was manufactured in Toledo, so I dunno. Wish I could remember the product name.

I've heard that word used for perhaps a decade and a half now. Technically speaking, e-ciggies are vaporization devices, not combustion.

I started vaping on 11/6. I accidentally quit a 25-year-long pack-a-day smoking habit. It's just better than regular cigarettes, so I don't need those anymore.

It's become a huge thing. And it has the character of early ham radio, or early computer clubs. My main vape rig is currently a pretty basic Nautilus tank on a Manhattan copper mod; nothing too fancy. But my secondary is a dripper rig - a Tugboat - which is a very good example of the current state of this hobby. With a Tugboat what you get is a stainless steel shell inside which is a couple of screw mounts. You use pliers to make your own hand-made coils to attach to the posts and thread cotton batting through it. How many coils, how big, and how tight is completely up to you and determine the Ohms of your dripper, which will help you decide what sort of voltage you'll need to push through it with your mod (calling the battery parts of a vape rig a mod comes from the fact these were originally modified high-power flashlight bodies attached to the vaporizers).

Sure you can buy pre-made rigs now. But the core of the hobby is VERY do-it-yourself and you'll want to know some basics about the relationship between resistances and voltages. It's kind of neat.

Oh, I should specify that my vaping and all the vast myriad of devices I've started to become familiar with are all about nicotine vaping. Atomizing liquids. Not solids.

This things being linked don't look very portable. I'm talking about things more like this.

That looks like a great machine too.. for that price and the amount of product you save from not smoking it, it practically pays for itself.

I'd consider buying that, much better price.

Cons:
Vape maintenance is not trivial if you want to keep it in respectable shape.
Also, more glass parts = more things that can break.

Pros:
Comes with the plastic whip tube.
Comes with medical-grade plastic bag.
Comes with various other add-ons that let it successfully masquerade as an aromatherapy device.

Having seen it done in the wild a few times, I've decided that people look really dumb when they are vaping. A long draw from a plastic dick then a huge cloud of vapor gets exhaled. And when downwind I get to inhale it too.

Still vaping, TPR?

Auto-correct does not like the v-word.

I've only seen rednecks doing it.... though, rednecks are 90% of the people around me.

Just looks weird. Not cool at all. Burning thing in your mouth... that's cool. Vaping.... just weird.
