National ID Cards
Spawned from the Arizona immigration law debate comes the news that the Dems want national ID cards.
“Every record been destroyed or falsified, books rewritten, pictures repainted, statues, street building renamed, every date altered. The process is continuing day by day. History stops. Nothing exists except endless present in which the Party is right.”
as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) continues to hold out, arguing that the divisive issue will make progress on climate change legislation impossible.
Sweet.

I'm surprised the Dems would want national ID cards since it could conceivably make it harder to practice voter fraud during an election.
But just as long as we can say it is racist to require an ID to prove who you are before casting a ballot, they should be safe.

If it replaces that &\or the Social Security card, then whatever. I just don't want to carry around ID in every form convenient for various bureaucratic gov't agencies. I already hate them & don't intend to make their lives easier since their primary purpose in life is making mine more difficult.GORDON wrote:I don't know why it couldn't replace a state driver's license.

Were you upset when the Republicans passed this bill to make states all comply and make drivers licenses acceptable to them.
After 2011, "a Federal agency may not accept, for any official purpose, a driver's license or identification card issued by a state to any person unless the state is meeting the requirements" specified in the REAL ID Act.

In marriage there is always one person right. And the other one is the husband.
It should be codified into law that any government official asking for identification from a citizen must say "Papers, Please" in a thick German accent and click their heals together.GORDON wrote:Our country entered its "Papers, Please" phase with the TSA.
Just because.

I don't like anything that gives the federal government more power than it has a right to.unkbill wrote:Were you upset when the Republicans passed this bill to make states all comply and make drivers licenses acceptable to them.

But I certainly don't see federal powers shrinking any time soon. Let's be real.
If we can at least eliminate voter fraud, that would be a good start. If a national ID helps do that, fine.

I can't get behind that. There's already laws on the books to govern voting. They just aren't enforced intelligently. Simply piling redundancy on top of a fundamentally flawed framework isn't going to cause a major change.GORDON wrote:If we can at least eliminate voter fraud, that would be a good start. I agree. If anyone wanted to uphold election laws, they would. Was just thinking that MAYBE with a national ID it would be harder to cheat if there was, say, a card reader that had to be swiped, or something like that. Voter fraud would be a lot harder than just driving over to the next town and saying "Well I DID register you just made an error now let me vote," and they do.
If someone lives in Kentucky and votes in a battleground state like Ohio, red flag.
Etc.
But I'm dreaming, I know. I'm just a huge racist because I want to eliminate voter fraud.
