Not sure if I've ever heard the nose one. Sounds racist.

Right? Me either, but my wife is convinced that's the phrase, and I've never heard it. Jeopardy even had a question about it, and the answer was the "nose" version, not back.

Prolly regional.

The first time I ever heard the concept of "their are 5 oceans on Earth" it was a Jeopardy question. Up here in the farmlands of Ohio, they teach 4 oceans.

Thib teaches 1 ocean.

Ohio's behind the times. Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic, Southern. Or, 1, also acceptable.

I cannot vote as I have heard both phrases.

I have also heard both 4 and 5 for number of oceans. I like 4 because "Southern" seems lazy.

The 1 makes sense to me, but I've never heard that number before.

They also call it the Antarctic Ocean, if that makes you feel better.

TF is the Southern Ocean?

Is it in Narnia? Westeros?

e: ok it has a wikipedia page but I spend an inordinate amount of time on google earth just looking at countries for fun and I still thought it was only called the Antarctic Ocean.

Heh, there isn't an Antarctic Ocean, either. :)

Pluto aint a planet now, and they squeezed out another ocean. I think they just want to sell updated text books. Massive conspiracy.

I assume it's fauna is diverse enough that they considered it its own ecosystem kind of thing.

The original phrasing is "nose." My guess is, like usual, people mix shit up. In this case with "shirt off his back."

Apparently, officially, 5 oceans, now.
